When Was The Last Time 2 Players Scored 200 In a Single Test Innings?

Steve Smith remained unbeaten on 200* while Marnus Labuschagne was dismissed on  204 just before lunch on the second day of the first test match between Australia and West at the Perth Stadium in December 2022. It remains to be only the 17th instance when two players have scored a double century each in a single test innings, with the previous incident taking place more than a decade ago.

It comes as no surprise that the last time two players scored 200 in a single innings was also an Australian duo. Two iconic players who have donned the baggy green, Ricky Ponting (221) and Michael Clarke(210), achieved the feat against India at the Adelaide Oval in 2012. Australia went on to score 604/7 before declaring against the Men in Blue 10 years ago.

Before the former Aussie captains, The Sri Lanka duo of M Jayawardene (240) and T Samaraweera (231) scored 200 each in against Pakistan in Karachi back in 2009.  G Smith (232) and  N McKenzie (226) propel South Africa to 583/7 dec* against Bangladesh at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in 2008 while the Indian duo of G Gambhir (206) and VVS Laxman (200*) also smashed double centuries each against Australia in Delhi six months later.

It is also worth noting that Australia has the most number of duo’s who have scored 200 in a single test innings. The baggy Greens have done it five times, while Pakistan and Sri Lanka players have done it three times.
