The ICC Cricket World Cup is one of the most highly significant sporting events in the world. The highly awaited event is all set to be played in India this year with the 2023 ODI World Cup starting in the months of October and November. As per the latest reports shared by Cricbuzz, reigning champions England and last edition’s finalists New Zealand will square off against each other in the tournament opener on 5th October 2023.
The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will play host to the first match of ICC ODI World Cup 2023 with the same venue also hosting the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 final on 19th November. The Indian Cricket team will play its first match of the tournament against five-time winners Australia. This match is all set to take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai as per reports from the Indian Express. The high-voltage India vs Pakistan encounter is all set to take place on 15th October 2023.

According to various sources Hyderabad, Indore, Dharamsala, Raipur, Guwahati, Rajkot, alongside Ahmedabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Delhi, and Mumbai are the designated venues for ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Nagpur and Mohali are two key stadiums that failed to get the chance to host a game in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
It is also stated that the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, which hosted the final of the 2011 ODI World Cup, as well as the Eden Garden stadium in Kolkata will host the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 semifinals. The tentative schedule also reveals that Pakistan, who have political conflicts with India will play their matches in Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad.
Just like the 2019 edition of the World Cup, 10 teams will participate in the upcoming ICC event. Following the round robin format, every team will square off against a team at least once. After the end of the group stage matches, the top four teams will qualify for the semifinals.
The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 will have 48 matches with hosts India along with Australia, England, New Zealand, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and South Africa having already qualified for this event. The final two spots will be filled by teams who manage to do well in the qualifying tournament which will take place in June-July 2023. Big teams like Sri Lanka and West Indies are set to compete with the minnows, Ireland, Zimbabwe, UAE, Nepal, Netherlands, Scotland, and Oman for a sport in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
