What Went Wrong For Temba Bavuma In SA20 Auction: Cricket South Africa has introduced their T20 league, where 533 players have been listed, and among them, a few of them went under the hammer. Several players were sold for a whooping price; some got unsold despite having potential. Among them all, an awkward situation arose in SA20 auctions when the world witnessed Temba Bavuma, South Africa’s T20 and One Day International captain, getting unsold in the SA20 mega auctions.
Bavuma is indeed one of the finest players in South Africa and has proved to be a good leader in SA’s recent tours. Bavuma getting unsold in SA20 shocked several cricketing pundits, but if we look at his T20 stats, one cannot deny that he is not a T20 expert.

Bavuma has been a good leader for South Africa and has a decent record in Test and ODI’s. However, when it comes to T20I, Bavuma’s performance is not satisfying. Representing South Africa in 25 T20I, Bavuma has scored 562 with a strike rate of 120.6.
Well, if players like Lendl Simmons, Ross Taylor, and Eoin Morgan can go unsold in SA20 auctions, then I am not shocked after seeing Bavuma getting unsold. However, it’s shameful for South Africa Cricket Board that any franchise in SA20 auctions did not pick their T20 and ODI captain.
Bavuma had played 51 Tests, where the lad had scored 2612 with one century and fifty half-centuries. In ODIs, he had scored 722 in 19 games with two centuries and two half centuries. The stats conveys it all. Bavuma getting unsold is justified.
Furthermore, there isn’t much to brag about as captain. During his tenure, his team was defeated by Bangladesh (a 2-1 series loss) and Ireland. The 3-0 victory over India in January of this year is a feather in his cap, but there isn’t much else to look forward to. He was praised for his maturity and poise in handling the controversy surrounding Quinton de Kock’s refusal to take the knee during the T20 World Cup.
