Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star AB de Villiers rejoined his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise on 3rd November 2022. The South African cricket legend, who retired from all forms of cricket in 2020, landed in Bengaluru on Thursday.
The 38-year-old later revealed how he had just checked into a hotel in Bengaluru and was keeping a eye on his countrymen, playing in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. He tweeted, “Great to be back in Bangalore. Just checked in to the ITC Royal Gardenia for the first time in many years! So many great memories flowing back. Also been told this is my 25th time checking in here Tele is on and ready for the Pak/SA game. Go Proteas.”

The Bengaluru-based IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore also dropped a video of the former middle-order batter, confirming his arrival. AB de Villiers is seen checking out of the airport in the Twitter post, which is captioned, “Ladies & Gentlemen, the super human is here and he’s telling you why. Welcome home, @ABdeVilliers17”

According to rumours, the former right-handed batter will join the franchise in some capacity. However, there have been no details on what capacity he will work at the team. AB de Villiers is most likely to be named as a mentor of the Royal Challengers Bangalore for the upcoming season. He is expected to be a part of the backroom staff, looking to help the team in determining their player picks for the upcoming IPL auction.

Over the past years, the former wicketkeeper has been a vital part of RCB and is also a part of the team’s Hall of Fame. During his playing days, AB de Villiers played in 14 seasons of IPL, featuring in over 184 IPL matches. He has scored 5162 runs in 170 innings, recording a jaw-dropping strike rate of 151.68 with an average of around 39.70. AB de Villiers enjoys huge popularity in India, especially Bangalore and is considered to be one of the best batters to have featured appeared in India’s cash-rich T20 tournament.
