Flamboyant West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell has caught the limelight with the 34-year-old hitting 6 sixes in a row. The Trinbago Knight Riders star achieved the feat against the St Kitts to Nevis Patriots in the inaugural edition of the 6IXTY tournament. Russell ended up scoring a jaw dropping knock of 72 runs in 24 balls, helping his side register a narrow 3-run win.
Russell’s knock saw him record eight 6s and five 4s with the carnage beginning against Dominic Drakes. He was the first bowler to face the West Indian star’s hit as Andre Russell hit him for four sixes in the last 4 balls of the seventh over. As per the rules of the 6IXTY tournament, batters don’t change sides at the end of the over.
It resulted in Russell remaining on strike for the 8th over as well where he hit spinner Jon-Russ Jaggesar with a couple of sixes to achieve the feat. However, Jaggesar had the last laugh by getting rid of the 34-year-old in the same over. The Trinbago Knight Riders rode on the WI star’s knock to record a gigantic total of 155 in 10 overs.

Russell has been in the news after he was reported to have a rift with the West Indies Cricket Board. It has resulted in him not playing a single T20I match since ICC the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup. Ahead of the 6IXTY, Andre Russell’s latest appearance came in The Hundred tournament where he was seen showing his caliber at the top of the order.
The Trinbago Knight Riders star is seen giving preferences to featuring in various franchise-based leagues instead of playing for the national team. It has also led to West Indies Head Coach Phil Simmons claiming how the cricket board will not ‘beg someone’ to play for the national team.

The West Indies Cricket Team finds itself under serious trouble with many players opting out of making themselves available. They are set to play the Qualifiers for ICC T20 World Cup and need to have players like Andre Russell in their ranks. In a recent interview, the 34 year old shared that he wants to represent the West Indies again.
It remains interesting to see if the two-time World Champions manage to sort out the issues and bring Russell back in the team. If he continues to output such performances, it would also be difficult for the WI to ignore and overlook him.
