According to various reports, former India middle order batter VVS Laxman has joined the Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue squad for the highly anticipated Asia Cup 2022. The team is currently in Dubai. For the tournament which kickstarts on 27th August.
Cricbuzz has reported that VVS Laxman, who served as the interim coach for the recently concluded three-match ODI series in Zimbabwe has been asked to stay in Dubai. The former cricketer was set to return to India from Harare but is now set to join the squad for the continental tournament. Members of the Indian team, who played in the Zimbabwe series but have not been called up for the Asia Cup are back in India.
Despite no official confirmation, Laxman is said to be the named as the temporary coach of the Indian team for the Asia Cup 2022. He is expected to take charge of the Men in Blue team from the duration of August 27-Sepember 11 with Rahul Dravid unable to travel to UAE after testing positive for Covid-19.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not officially named, VVS Laxman , the head of the National Cricket Academy as the coach for Indian team for the 6-nation tournament. However, there seems to be an informal arrangement and it could just be a matter of time before India’s cricket board makes the announcement.

Earlier, BCCI had shared an update on Rahul Dravid’s condition while confirming reports of the Indian head coach being affected by the corona virus on Tuesday. It stated, “Mr. Dravid is under the supervision of the BCCI Medical team and has mild symptoms. He will join the team once he returns with a negative COVID-19 report.”
So far, the BCCI is said to be monitoring Dravid situation with VVS Laxman rumoured to charge of the team till the current head coach gets back to full fitness. Meanwhile, India is all set to get back in action and play their first game in the Asia Cup on Sunday. The Men in Blue are set to square off against arch-rivals Pakistan, on 28th August with the second game of the Asia Cup set to take place at the Dubai International stadium.
