Virender Sehwag: The Next Chief Selector Of India?

Virender Sehwag: The Next Chief Selector Of India? Virendra Sehwag, a former Indian cricketer, has dismissed recent rumors that he has been approached by the BCCI to become the chief selector for the Indian team. Despite speculation to the contrary, Sehwag has denied any such appointment.

The Times of India inquired about this matter and asked Sehwag for clarification. He denied all speculation with a simple one-word response of “No.”

BCCI has been without a chief selector for over three months now, following the resignation of Chetan Sharma, who handed over his resignation to BCCI Secretary Jay Shah.

Reason Behind Chetan Sharma’s Resignation as BCCI Chief Selector

Following a sting operation, Chetan Sharma, the chairman of the national selection committee, found his position to be in jeopardy due to accusations of making inappropriate comments. Sharma had insinuated that there may have been ego-related tensions between Ganguly and Kohli.

According to the chief selector, Kohli seemed to have a sense of superiority over the Board and retaliated against the former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, possibly due to feeling ousted from his position as ODI captain.

Who is the interim chief selector of India after Chetan Sharma’s exit?

Following Sharma’s departure, former Indian player Shiv Sunder Das has taken on the role of interim chief selector for the national team. The panel also includes S Sharath (south), Subroto Banerjee (central), and Salil Ankola (west) as additional members of panel.

BCCI to name new chief selector soon, who could be the frontrunners?

According to Sehwag’s response, it’s clear that he has no intention of becoming the chief selector. However, the BCCI has already begun the process of selecting someone for the position.

The BCCI posted an advertisement for the position of men’s selection committee on their official website on Thursday.

The new chief selector of the men’s selection committee is expected to meet the criteria of having played seven test matches, 30 first-class matches or ten ODI’s and 20 first-class matches.

The BCCI is looking for a new chief selector for the men’s selection committee. The ideal candidate will have played at least seven test matches or ten ODIs, and they must have retired from the game at least five years ago. The deadline for submitting applications is June 30th.

Why this selection will be crucial?

As the Asia Cup and World Cup approach, there is a growing demand within the cricket community for a shift in the team’s composition. The incoming selector must strategize and devise a strong squad while also designating a captain for the team in every format.
