Former India skipper Virat Kohli opened up about how MS Dhoni was the only person who reached out to him personally after he gave up Test captaincy. The 33-year-old has revealed that the former Indian wicket keeper was the only person who messaged him when he stepped down from captaincy in the longest format of the game. Later, Kohli was also controversially removed as the captain from the ODI team when he was going through a struggling phase with the bat in his career.
The Delhi based star also shared how he has been in constant touch with Dhoni while speaking about the special connection he has with the former wicketkeeper batter. He was also recently seen sharing on his mental health stating how he was not doing well mentally. However, Virat Kohli was made a solid comeback after returning fresh to the national team set up since his month break from cricket.
Speaking with the media during the post-match press conference after India’s loss to Pakistan, Virat Kohli shared that many people have his contact number. However, he went on to claim that it was only MS Dhoni, among the players he has played with who checked in on him after he stepped down as the Test team captain.

He said, “When I gave up Test captaincy, the first message I received was from MSD among the players with whom I have played with before. Many people have my number, but just MS messaged me. When there’s respect between two players, there’s a connection. I individually reach out to MSD whenever I want.”

The 2011 World Cup winner also took a dig at former cricketers and various people who spoke on his batting on social media over the last few months. He shared how it would be better if the suggestions did not come through various platforms and rather see people reach out to him personally.
“Giving a lot of suggestion on various platforms isn’t important for me as many did it. If I want to tell anyone something, I will reach out personally. If you give suggestions in front of the whole world, then for me that has no value,” Virat Kohli added.
