Virat Kohli is rumored to miss the second One-Day International (ODI) against England on Thursday. The Indian batter suffered from a groin injury in the last T20I, which forced him to miss the first ODI. The 33-year-old is reported to remain unavailable for the second ODI at the Lord’s Stadium.
Reports from ANI have claimed that Kohli has not recovered from the groin injury which might rule him out for the 2nd ODI. It further adds how Shreyas Iyer, who played the first ODI, is expected to get another opportunity for India. The Mumbai based batter is expected to remain a part of the playing XI against the Three Lions on Thursday.
Earlier, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a statement speaking on Kohli’s unavailability for the first ODI. However, there has been no official update on the 33-year-old’s recovery by the Indian team management so far.
While questions hover around Kohli’s availability, former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha has shared his opinion on what the Men in Blue should do in his absence. The 35 year old spoke how Kohli’s case can be more than just a niggle if he does not recover in time to play the second ODI.
Speaking on Cricbuzz, the former Indian cricketer said, “Virat should play (If fit). I had heard that he would not be available for the first ODI but will be available for the second and third game. I feel it was more a case of a precaution than injury, so the niggle doesn’t get worse. However, if he doesn’t play the next game, it would be more than a niggle.”

He added, “The groin injury might be a bit deeper than what has been reported. It would be interesting to see who goes out if Kohli comes in, just in case he is fit. According to me, the choice would be between Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav.”
RP Singh, who was also a part of the panel shared his opinion on India’s team composition for the 2nd ODI. The former India pacer feels that Iyer should make way if the former Indian captain is fit to play. The 36-year-old said, “Kohli should replace Shreyas Iyer. Suryakumar is playing really well. His form should not be disturbed. In-form players should be in the team.”
