Umesh Yadav To Play County Cricket After Signing For Middlesex

Indian speedster Umesh Yadav has signed a deal with Middlesex Cricket which will see the 34-year-old feature in the remainder of the county season. The English domestic cricket club made the announcement on Monday after the veteran pacer’s visa process was completed.

Following the completion of all the documentation process, Yadav is eligible to play in the English domestic circuit. Originally not a part of the Middlesex team, the speedster can now feature in various First-Class and List-A games. He has been signed as a replacement for Shaheen Afridi with the Pakistani speedster leaving the team for national duty.

Umesh Yadav is expected to play a crucial role in Middlesex’s County Championship and Royal London Cup campaigns.  The Indian pacer has also been added to Middlesex’s squad for the upcoming county clash. He is expected to make his debut at Merchant Taylors’ School later this week.

The Club’s Head of Men’s Performance Cricket, Alan Coleman shared his thoughts on the recent announcement. He said, “It was always our intention to have an overseas international bowler with us throughout the duration of the season. Since Shaheen returned to Pakistan prior to the start of our Blast campaign we’ve been looking for the right player to replace him.”

Coleman also spoke how Umesh Yadav’s inclusion will be a massive value addition to the Middlesex side. He added,  “Umesh Yadav is that man. He comes to us with a wealth of experience, he is a proven world-class performer, and can not only make a huge difference himself for the remainder of our Championship campaign and to our prospects in the Royal London Cup but will also be a fantastic role model for our younger bowlers to work alongside.”

The Indian international brings a ton of experience with him having featured in over 130 games for the Men in Blue. He has played 52 Test matches while also featuring in 77 ODIs , and 7 T20Is. Apart from Yadav, Cheteshwar Pujara and Washington Sundar are also expected to turn up for their county sides. The Indian trio will square off against each other in the Royal London One-Day Cup.
