Ravichandran Ashwin, India’s star spinner, was withdrawn from the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 squad and was replaced by fast bowler Umesh Yadav. However, this selection is a significant setback to Team India’s standing. The first WTC match began today, with India putting up a good fight in the early overs.
Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj both bowled exceptionally well. Siraj dismissed Australian opener Usman Khwaja after only 10 balls. However, after the drinks break, Umesh Yadav replaced Shami, and unfortunately, Warner hit back-to-back boundaries, causing trouble for India’s team.
Dinesh Karthik stated ahead of the summit showdown in London that while he appreciated seeing Ashwin in the Southampton Test last year against England, Umesh looked considerably better in the practice nets.
“Leave Ashwin out and go with four pacers. I enjoyed watching Ashwin bowl in Southampton, but will the coach do the same thing again? I have my doubts. Umesh Yadav has performed admirably in the nets. He appears to be in good physical and mental health. I have a feeling they’ll go with Umesh,” he told Cricbuzz.
Throughout history, there have been many pace bowlers who have dominated in Test cricket. However, when it comes to Ravichandran Ashwin, he is widely recognized as one of the top spinners in the world.

Ashwin opponents often find themselves struggling to hit spin varieties. The spin maestro possesses many variations, including the slider, carrom ball, doosra, off-break, and leg break.
He is known for his versatility, not just as a top-class off-break bowler but also as a talented batter. Ashwin has come a long way since his early days as a T20 bowler and has evolved into a skilled spinner.
Despite his advancing age, he continues to improve and overcome obstacles like a fine wine. To determine who is superior between Ashvin and Yadav, it is clear that Ashwin stands out as the better choice. However, Yadav’s inclusion in the team could help Australia achieve big-run targets without any concerns and can lead team India to a big defeat.
