UEFA Euro Top Scorers

The UEFA European Football Championship, informally called the Euros, was founded in 1958. The first competition, however, took place in 1960. The competition has taken place every four years since then, except for 2020, when it was shifted to 2021 due to COVID-19. The competition was initially called the European Nation’s Cup. Its name was changed to UEFA European Football Championship in 1968.

12. Nuno Gomes (6 Goals)

Nuno Gomes played for Portugal from 1996 to 2011. He managed to score six goals in the Euros in 14 appearances. His first-ever goal in the competition came against England in UEFA Euro 2000. Gomes scored four goals in that competition, the most he scored in a single Euro campaign. The striker also scored one goal in both the 2004 and 2006 Euros. This took his total tally to six goals.

11. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (6 Goals)

Zlatan Ibrahimovic played for Sweden for over two decades. He made 13 appearances in the Euros for his nation and scored six goals. The Swedish striker has scored in three different editions of the UEFA Euros. He scored two goals in each of the 2004, 2008, and 2012 Euros.

10. Thierry Henry (6 Goals)

Thierry Henry has scored 51 goals in 123 games for his nation. The striker played for France from 1997 to 2010. The Frenchman scored in three different editions of the Euros, bagging six goals in 11 games. Henry scored three goals in UEFA Euro 2000, two in UEFA Euro 2004, and one in UEFA Euro 2008.

9. Romelu Lukaku (6 Goals)

The Roma star has been playing for Belgium since 2010. The striker is Belgium’s top scorer by some margin. Romelu Lukaku has scored 83 goals for his national team in 113 appearances. The next highest top scorer is Eden Hazard, who has 33 goals. There is a difference of 50 goals between them. Lukaku has scored in the 2016 and 2020 Euros. He scored two goals in 2016 and four goals in 2020, taking his total tally up to six goals in the Euros.

8. Alvaro Morata (6 Goals)

Alvaro Morata made his debut for Spain in 2014. Since then, the striker has played 69 games for them and scored 34 goals. The striker has only played in two editions of the UEFA Euros for his nation and managed to score in both. Morata has six goals in the Euros in 10 appearances. He scored three goals each in the 2016 and 2020 UEFA Euros.

7. Wayne Rooney (6 Goals)

Wayne Rooney is one of the best English footballers in history. Rooney has scored 53 goals for England in 120 appearances. The striker was his nation’s top goal scorer before Harry Kane broke his record. Rooney scored six goals in the UEFA Euros in 10 matches. The Manchester United legend scored four goals in the 2004 Euros. He also scored one goal each in the 2012 and 2016 Euros, taking his total tally to six goals scored.

6. Patrick Kluivert (6 Goals)

Patrick Kluivert played for Netherlands from 1994 to 2004. The Dutch was a prolific goal scorer and scored six goals in just nine appearances at the Euros. He scored in two campaigns of this tournament. However, most of his goals came in the Euro 2000. Kluivert scored his first goal in the 1996 Euros. All his remaining five goals came in the 2000 Euros, with the striker scoring a hat trick against Yugoslavia.

5. Ruud van Nistelrooy (6 Goals)

Ruud van Nistelrooy has six goals in just appearances in the Euros. This means he has a goals-per-game ratio of 0.75. The striker managed to score four of these goals in the 2004 edition of the tournament, while the remaining two goals came in 2008.

4. Antoine Griezmann (7 Goals)

Antoine Griezmann has been playing for France since 2014. The Frenchman has scored seven goals in the Euros. This ties him up with Alan Shearer in third place for the most goals scored in Euros. Griezmann had a blinder of a campaign in the 2016 Euros. He scored six goals for his nation and ended up as the tournament’s top scorer. Five of these six goals came in knockout games. While his performance in the 2020 Euros was not nearly as impressive, the French forward still scored one goal to take his tally up to seven goals.

3. Alan Shearer (7 Goals)

Alan Shearer is regarded as one of the best English strikers to ever live. The Newcastle striker holds the record for most goals scored in premier League history. He also held the record for most goals scored in one Premier League season which was recently broken by Erling Haaland. Alan Shearer has scored seven goals in nine appearances at the Euros. He scored five of these goals in the 1996 Euros. Four years later, he scored another two goals in the 2000 Euros, taking his tally to seven goals scored in the Euros.

2. Michel Platini (9 Goals)

Michel Platini only played in one edition of the Euros. Despite playing just five games, he is this tournament’s second-highest goal scorer. Platini has nine goals in five appearances at the Euros. This means his goals-per-game ratio in this tournament is a ridiculous 1.8. All nine of Platini’s goals came in the 1984 Euros. These nine goals included two hat tricks against Belgium and Yugoslavia.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo (14 Goals)

Cristiano Ronaldo is UEFA Euro’s top scorer. It comes as no surprise to see the Portuguese star at the top of this list. Ronaldo is regarded as one of the best players ever, and it is only natural that he would top the list of top scorers at the Euros. The ex-Manchester United star has scored 14 goals in 25 games. The striker contributed three goals in the 2016 Euros, leading his national team to the title.

The Portuguese forward has scored in five different editions of the tournament. While he won the title in 2016, his best goal-scoring run came in the 2020 Euros, where he managed to score five goals in a single campaign and ended the tournament as the joint-top scorer.
