Twitter Takes Dig at Rohit-Rahul After Azam-Rizwan’s Heroics

Pakistan batters Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan registered a record-breaking partnership against England. The duo went to record a double century opening stand as the Men in Green picked up a 10-wicket win on Thursday. Azam remained not out on 110 while Rizwan 88* silenced their critics as they made a joke of the England’s bowling line-up.

Rizwan was criticized for his slow strike rate at the recently concluded Asia Cup. Babar Azam, on the other hand, had come under heavy criticism for his poor form at teh 6 nation tournament. However, the duo’s innings today not only silenced their critics but also acted as a huge relief for Pakistan fans and with less than a month left for the ICC T20 World Cup.

Citing the partnership, Pakistan speedster Shaheen Afridi posted a cheeky tweet taking a jab at Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan’s critics. He said, “I think it is time to get rid of Kaptaan @babarazam258 and @iMRizwanPak. Itne selfish players. Agar sahi se khelte to match 15 overs me finish hojana chahye tha. Ye akhri over tak le gaye. Let’s make this a movement. Nahi? Absolutely proud of this amazing Pakistani team.”

Babar Azam-Mohammad Rizwan’s knock effect 

While many Pakistan cricket fans were all praise for the duo, Indian cricket fans did not shy away from taking a dig at Indian batters. The likes of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul have failed to get going in the shortest format of the game in the recent past. Despite getting half centuries in the few previous outings, the duo has failed to make it big. Their form has been a major matter of concern with the ICC T20 World Cup, just round the corner.

The Indian batters are set to take the field against Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan when the Men in Blue square off against Pakistan at the ICC T20 World Cup. It will be the first match for Rohit Sharma and Co in the Super 12 stages of the tournament and is scheduled to be played at the Melbourne cricket ground on 23rd October.  It remains interesting to see which batting duo comes out on top at the biggest stage in world cricket next month.
