The Indian cricket team suffered a major blow ahead of their World Test Championship final against Australia after Jaydev Unadkat suffered from an injury while featuring in the Indian Premier League. (IPL) The veteran pacer sustained an injury to his shoulder while he was training with the Lucknow Super Giants ahead of their clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Ekana Cricket Stadium.
The left-arm pacer bowling was seen struggling in the nets ahead of the LSG-RCB clash. After finishing his follow-through, Unadkat’s left foot was entangled by the rope that is used to keep the net straight resulting in the bowler landing on his left shoulder. The team physio rushed to check up on him while he grabbed his shoulder in pain and was later seen applying an ice pack.
Unadkat is a member of India’s squad that will feature in the 2023 World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia. The one-off Test is all set to take place at the The Oval from 7-11 June with 12th June named as the reserve day for this test. With the pacer likley to be ruled out, questions are raised on his replacement in the Indian squad.

If Unadkat misses out, the like of Navdeep Saini and Ishant Sharma alongside Mukesh Kumar are touted to get an opportunity to play in Indian squad for the WTC final. However, Tushar Deshpande has emerged as a surprise pick and could well be in the running to edge out other for a national team call up.
Tushar Deshpande rose to the occasion and now finds himself to be the go-to seamer for Chennai Super Kings’. From being a net bowler two years ago to becoming a key player for CSK, Deshpande has grown a long way. Despite leaking 51 runs in 3.2 overs against Gujarat Titans in the first match of IPL 2023, the 27 year old has bounced back in emphatic style. Currently, the Mumbai based star is in the running to walk away with the Purple Cap in IPL 2023.
The BCCI is reported to be rope Deshpande into the red ball team citing the injuries to Jasprit Bumrah, and Unadkat. However the likes of Mukesh Kumar, Navdeep Saini and Ishant Sharma provide tough competition. It remains interesting to see how things far out for him with just over a month lest for the match.
