One of the best MI vs CSK matches took place on 21st April 2022. We got to witness one of if not the best finisher in history, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, in full flow. Chennai Super Kings won the toss and decided to bowl first. Mumbai seemed to struggle to bat first and ended up giving CSK a target of 156. The game seemed to be in Chennai’s hands after the first innings, but Mumbai Indians were not going to give up so easily.
Mumbai bowlers came out extremely motivated to give CSK a hard time, and that is precisely what they did. Daniel Sams ended up bowling a very impressive spell, taking four wickets and conceding just 30 runs in his four overs. Mumbai Indians put Chennai Super Kings under so much pressure that they turned the game around and eventually became the favourites to win the game. 17 runs were required in the last over with Dwaine Pretorius and MS Dhoni batting. Jaydev Unadkat managed to get Pretorius out on the first ball, and it seemed like MI had done enough to win the game. However, MS Dhoni had yet to have had his say in the matter.
Dwayne Bravo took a single to give Dhoni the strike with 16 to win in four balls. Everything was set up perfectly for Dhoni, the finisher, to win Chennai the game, and he did not disappoint. Dhoni hit a six, a four, a double, and another four to score 16 runs in four balls and win Chennai Super Kings the match from a nearly impossible situation.
Happy Birthday Dwayne Smith 💙

The MI vs CSK showdown which took place on 6th May 2012 saw one of the best finishes to any IPL game. Harbhajan Singh won the toss for Mumbai Indians and said that Mumbai would be bowling first. Chennai Super Kings set a respectable target of 174 for Mumbai Indians to chase, thanks to good knocks from Murali Vijay, Suresh Raina, Dwayne Bravo, and MS Dhoni.
Mumbai Indians lost just one wicket till the end of the 15th over. Mumbai needed 43 runs in five overs, and it seemed that they would easily be able to get over the line. However, good bowling from Ravichandran Ashwin, Dwayne Bravo, and Ravindra Jadeja saw CSK pull the match back in their favour. One by one, wickets kept falling over the next four overs, and all of a sudden, Mumbai Indians found themselves seven wickets down and needing 16 runs from the last over.
Benjamin William Hilfenhaus bowled the last over for CSK. He started the over very well, giving away a single and then getting Lasith Malinga bowled in the first two balls. RP Singh came next and managed to take a single to give Dwayne Smith the strike. While Mumbai Indians fans were happy that Dwayne Smith was back on strike, they still needed 14 runs in three balls to win. It looked too far out of reach, but Dwayne Smith managed to do the impossible. He hit a six, followed by two fours in the final three balls to score 14 in the last three balls and win Mumbai Indians the MI vs CSK showdown.

Another MI vs CSK classic took place on 7th April 2018. Chennai Super Kings won the toss and decided to bowl first. Good knocks from Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, and Krunal Pandya helped Mumbai Indians set a decent target of 166. CSK had a relatively easy target to chase but did not get off to the best of starts. By the end of the ninth over, Chennai had lost four wickets and managed to score only 51 runs. They had lost the likes of Shane Watson, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, and MS Dhoni.
Kedar Jadhav and Ravindra Jadeja had just started building a partnership when they were hit with a double blow. Mustafizur Rahman got Jadeja out in the 12th over before Kedar Jadhav had to leave the field injured in the 13th over. It looked like Mumbai Indians might be able to gain the upper hand, but Dwayne Bravo had some different ideas. CSK needed 47 runs in the last three overs. Bravo hit Mitchell McClenaghan for 20 runs in the 18th over to bring it down to 27 runs required in 12 balls.
The game was still in Mumbai Indians’ hands with Jasprit Bumrah left to bowl an over, but Bravo made light work of him as well. Bravo hit 20 runs in the first five balls, getting the total down to seven runs in seven balls. However, Bumrah gave Mumbai Indians hope when he picked up the ninth wicket and got Bravo out on the final ball of the over. This meant an injured Kedar Jadhav would have to come out to bat, and MI needed just one wicket to win the game.
Mustafizur Rahman started strong, bowling three back-to-back dot balls to Jadhav. On the fourth ball, however, Jadhav, despite his injury, managed to shuffle across off, get down to one knee and smash a six, levelling the scores. On the fifth ball, Jadhav continued this hitting, smashing a four and helping CSK win. This MI vs CSK match, full of ups and downs, took one last swing towards Chennai Super Kings’ direction before ending.

One of the best Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings (MI vs CSK) showdowns took place on 1st May 2021. Mumbai Indians won the toss and decided to bowl first. MI ended up picking up Ruturaj Gaikwad’s wicket early through Trent Boult. However, this did not seem to unsettle CSK, as other batters stood up firm against MI and did a fantastic job. Faf du Plessis scored 50 runs in 28 balls, and Moeen Ali scored 58 runs in 36 balls. These innings, however, were eclipsed by that of Ambati Rayudu. The Indian batsman scored a quickfire 72 in just 27 balls, propelling CSK to a massive total of 218.
Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma gave the Mumbai Indians a good start. The South African star made 38 runs in 28 balls, while Rohit Sharma ended up making 35 runs in 24 balls. Suryakumar Yadav was unable to contribute and lost his wicket very cheaply. It seemed like Mumbai were losing too many wickets too fast, but then Krunal Pandya and Kieron Pollard stabilised the innings. They managed an 89-run partnership before Krunal Pandya got out in the 17th over after making 32 runs in 23 balls.
Although the partnership had kept Mumbai Indians in the game, they still needed 48 runs in the last three overs to win the MI vs CSK showdown. With a monstrous task at hand, one of the best finishers in IPL history, Kieron Pollard, got to work. While MI lost the wickets of Hardik Pandya and James Neesham, they ended up scoring 32 runs in two overs thanks to Pollard. MI needed 16 runs in the last over, but with Pollard on strike, the fans had a belief that he would be able to pull it off, and that is exactly what he did.
With back-to-back fours in the 2nd and 3rd balls of the over and a six in the 5th ball, it came down to two runs needed in one ball. Thanks to good running between the wickets by Kieron Pollard and Dhawal Kulkarni, MI managed to win this thrilling match on the last ball. Pollard’s 34 ball 87 is one of the best innings in IPL history. He showed CSK why he is considered to be one of the best finishers ever, dragging MI to the win from a nearly impossible situation, winning the MI vs CSK showdown and earning them the bragging rights.
Still can't get over from that last ball moment of 2019 IPL final when Rohit Sharma went to Malinga and planned the wicket of Shardul Thakur.

Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings (MI vs CSK) is the biggest rivalry in Indian Premier League history. Mumbai and Chennai are two of the top teams in IPL. One of the classic games between them took place on 12th May 2019. Mumbai Indians won the toss and decided to bat first.
Quinton de Kock gave MI a decent start, scoring 29 runs in 17 balls before getting out. The other batsmen in the lineup, however, struggled against CSK. Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Krunal Pandya, and Hardik Pandya scored a combined total of 76 runs. Kieron Pollard ended up somewhat rescuing Mumbai Indians. He scored 41 runs in 25 balls to help guide MI to a score of 149.
The game was in Chennai Super Kings hands with a target as low as 150 in the final and it seemed like Chennai would end up winning another MI vs CSK final. CSK started slow, but Shane Watson seemed to settle in beautifully. Faf du Plessis had a decent start to the game but got out in the fourth over, having scored 26 runs in 13 balls. Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu lost their wickets quite cheaply, and it seemed that the Mumbai Indians were slowly but surely coming back into the game.
MS Dhoni was another big loss for CSK in the final. The Indian wicketkeeper tried converting a single into a double thanks to an overthrow and paid the price. A direct hit from Ishan Kishan saw Dhoni end up being just short and losing his wicket. Shane Watson and Dwayne Bravo ended up stabilising CSK’s innings with a good partnership. After a 51-run partnership, however, Jasprit Bumrah managed to get a breakthrough and got Bravo out. CSK ended up needing nine runs in the final over, with Shane Watson and Ravindra Jadeja batting.
The MI vs CSK showdown seemed to be Chennai’s for the taking, but it was Lasith Malinga against whom they were coming up. Watson and Jadeja decided to take it slow, going for singles and doubles instead of boundaries. Watson managed to get four runs in the first three balls. It all seemed to be going perfectly for CSK, but tragedy struck on the fourth ball. Watson tried taking a quick double, but there was simply not enough time. Pandya’s throw reached Quinton de Kock before Shane Watson could reach the crease, and Watson had to depart with four runs needed in two balls.
Shardul Thakur started off well, taking a double on the first ball and making it two runs needed in one ball. CSK needed two runs to win and one run to force the match into super over. Lasith Malinga, however, had other plans. He bowled a perfect yorker, which hit Thakur’s pad. The umpire gave it out, and Mumbai Indians ended up winning with one run to spare, creating one of the closest and best IPL finals in the process. This goes down as the best MI vs CSK game to have ever taken place.
