Hello readers, as you all know, the remaining Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 is scheduled to resume in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 19th September 2021. With the T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in UAE post IPL, many teams and players are looking at the IPL as the ideal launch pad for the T20 World Cup.
Today, we will be talking about the top five players who are the top picks for your fantasy teams in IPL 2021.
(Disclaimer: Zeroing down to top five players from a plethora of champion cricketers is indeed a tough task. )
Style: Right hand, middle order batsman.
Suryakumar Yadav is the first name that features on our list. An integral part of the Mumbai Indians squad over the years, Yadav is an attacking batsman. He is considered by many as an all-rounder in all forms of cricket after captain Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. From hitting a first ball six to Jofra Archer in his international debut to winning the man of the series award in his first ODI series, Yadav has ticked all the correct boxes in his short international career so far.
Form in IPL:
In the first leg of IPL 2021, Yadav scored 173 runs in the 7 matches he played with a strike rate of 144.16. He even scored a 50 with a highest score of 56.
Form after IPL:
After IPL, Yadav played a solitary T20 International where he scored a brilliant 50 off 34 balls batting at number four. His ODI stats look promising too with 124 runs in three matches with an average of 62.
What is at stake?
An unfortunate injury to Shreyas Iyer means that there is a slot vacant in the Indian team middle order. With T20 World cup on the line, Suryakumar yadav would be looking forward to make a spot in the Indian side.
Style: Left hand opening batsman
Shikhar Dhawan has been one of the most prolific opening batsmen in the Indian cricket team for the last eight years. A clean striker of the cricket ball, Dhawan is an integral part of the Indian team in the limited overs cricket. He even captained the Indian team in the ODI and T20 series in Sri Lanka and would love to showcase the same confidence in the upcoming IPL.
Form in IPL:
Dhawan ended up as the highest run scorer in IPL 2021’s first leg. With 380 runs from eight matches that includes three 50s, Dhawan was on his way to have the best IPL of his career. He boasts of an average of 54.28 at a strike rate of 134. His highest score in IPL 2021 was 92.
Form after IPL:
Dhawan has two 40 plus scores in the three T20s he has played against Sri Lanka after the first leg of IPL 2021 and was the highest run scorer of the series. He scored the second highest number of runs in the ODIs against Sri Lanka.
What is at stake?
Dhawan is a likely starter for India in the T20 World Cup but with Indian cricket backing up youngsters like Prithvi Shaw and Ishan Kishan as the 3rd opener in the squad, Dhawan needs to his authority with a brilliant IPL.

Style: Left handed middle order batsman, right arm off break bowler.
IPL 2021 has been a comeback vehicle for Moeen Ali. This player not only rediscovered his lost form in the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) camp but also carried his form to make a grand comeback in his national side.
Form in IPL:
Ali played six games in the IPL and scored 206 runs with a strike rate of 131. He has even contributed with the ball and ended up scalping five wickets. Ali was the 3rd most valuable player in the first leg of IPL 2021.
Form after IPL:
Ali has been one of the busiest players after IPL 2021 got postponed and played as many as 12 games (Five ‘The Hundred Series’). He has scored 278 runs with the strike rate of over 130 and has even scalped 11 wickets in these games.
What is at stake?
Ben Stokes’ indefinite break from cricket has significantly weakened England’s chances in T20 WC. If Stokes fails to board the flight for UAE, it will be Moeen Ali who has to fill in the big boots with his all round abilities.
Style: Right handed opening batsmen, wicket keeper.
KL Rahul is one of the bigger names in IPL 2021 which you cannot afford to miss. A top order batsman who can mix caution with aggression, the Pubjab Kings XI skipper has been one of the most consistent performers in IPL 2021.
Form in IPL:
KL Rahul has scored 331 runs in the seven games he has played in IPL 2021 at a healthy average of 66.20. His strike rate was in the mid 130s. Rahul was the second highest run scorer in the series and scored four IPL 50s in the process.
Form after IPL:
This impressive batsman has not played any limited overs cricket after IPL 2021’s first leg due to the bio bubble restrictions. However, he has scored two 100s in the warm up games in England. Currently he is playing as an opener in India’s test series against England.
What is at stake?
Rahul is undoubtedly one of the best T20 batsmen in India at the moment. But given the bio bubble restrictions Rahul has not been able to showcase his T20 prowess. With selectors looking to set the last pieces of India’s T20 team jigsaw puzzle, Rahul must light up the remaining IPL 2021 to establish himself as a firecracker in the T20 World Cup.
And the final name in the list is:
Style: Right hand opening batsman.
50, 56, 50, 95*, 33, 36—these are not batting averages but the scores of Faf du Plessis in his last six IPL 2021. In the twilight of his career, Plessis is the last name that features in our last.
Form in IPL:
Plessis ended up as the 3rd highest run scorer in IPL 2021. He ended up scoring 320 runs in seven innings with an average of 64 and strike rate of 145. He even scored four consecutive 50s in the process.
Form after IPL:
Plessis has played a solitary T20 game after IPL 2021 was postponed. He managed to score only 5 runs. However, the yellow jersey may once again prove to be his lucky charm.
What is at stake?
The South African player has missed out on a central contract from Cricket South Africa and is currently a free agent. A brilliant IPL 2021 may open the doors for him in international cricket.
