The year is coming to a close, and 2024 has seen quite a few changes in the ICC Men’s One Day International (ODI) batting rankings list. Some players, like Heinrich Klaasen, have skyrocketed into the top 10 while others have dropped in position. Most countries have played very few ODI games this year, as most of the focus was on the Twenty20 International (T20I) World Cup. 10. Pathum Nissanka (Sri Lanka)

Pathum Nissanka is currently ranked 10th in the ICC Men’s One Day International (ODI) batting rankings with a rating of 671. The Sri Lankan star’s highest rating was 728, which he achieved after the game against Bangladesh at Chittagong in 2024. Nissanka’s best performance in ODIs came against Afghanistan on 9th February 2024. He scored 210 runs in 139 balls at a strike rate of 151.1. His innings included 20 fours and eight sixes.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz is an Afghan batsman who is tied with Shai Hope for the 8th position. He currently has a rating of 672 in the ICC Men’s One Day International (ODI) batting rankings list. Gurbaz’s best-ever rating was 693, which he achieved after the game against Bangladesh at Sharjah in 2024. Gurbaz’s highest ODI score this year came against Ireland on 77th March 2024. He scored 121 runs in 117 balls at a strike rate of 103.4.

Shai Hope is the second person who is tied for the 8th spot on this list, with both Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Shai Hope having accumulated a rating of 672 in the ICC Men’s One Day International (ODI) batting rankings list. Hope’s highest-ever ranking was when he managed to hit 802 after the game against Bangladesh at Malahide in 2019. His best game this year came against England on 2nd November 2024, in which Hope hit 117 runs in 127 balls at a strike rate of 92.1.

7. Daryl Mitchell (New Zealand)

Daryl Mitchell is a New Zealand star who currently has a rating of 706, which puts him 7th on the ICC Men’s One Day International (ODI) batting rankings list. Mitchell’s best-ever rating was 750, which he achieved after the game against India in Mumbai in 2023. Mithcell has not played a single ODI game for the Kiwis this year but still managed to end 2024 ranked as the seventh-best ODI batsman in the world.

6. Harry Tector (Ireland)

Harry Tector currently sits 6th in the ICC Men’s One Day International (ODI) batting rankings list. He currently has a rating of 737, which comes as a shock to some fans who have not seen his performances for Ireland. Tector’s best performance this year came against Afghanistan when he scored 138 runs in 147 balls at a strike rate of 93.9. Harry Tector’s highest-ever rating was 767, which he achieved after the game against Afghanistan at Sharjah in 2024.

Heinrich Klaasen has skyrocketed in the ICC Men’s One Day International batting rankings in 2024, having increased by a massive eight positions recently. Klaasen’s current rating is 743, which puts him 5th on the list. His best-ever rating was 757, which was achieved after the game against Bangladesh in Mumbai in 2023. Klaasen has played just three ODI games this year, scoring 97, 86, and 81 runs in these three games.

4. Virat Kohli (India)

Virat Kohli will end 2024 ranked as the 4th best One Day International (ODI) player in the world. While he has been in the 4th place for quite some time now, he has not really had a chance to play One Day International games this year. He has played just three games, and while he did not perform well in these games, he retains his number four spot thanks to his rating of 746. Kohli’s highest-ever rating was 909, something he achieved after the game against England at Headingley in 2019.

Shubman Gill is another Indian batsman who is ranked very high on this list. Gill currently has a rating of 763, which puts him 3rd on the ICC Men’s One Day International (ODI) batting rankings list. Gill, like his compatriots, only played three games this year but has managed to retain his position near the top. His best-ever rating was 847, which he achieved after the game against Australia at Indore in 2023.

2. Rohit Sharma (India)

Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, ends 2024 ranked as the 2nd best One Day International (ODI) player in the world. Sharma currently has a rating of 765 despite having played just three ODI games this year. The Indian captain scored 64, 58, and 35 runs in these three games at an average strike rate of 141.4. Sharma’s highest-ever rating in ODIs has been 882, which he achieved after the game against Sri Lanka at Headingley in 2019.

Babar Azam will end 2024, ranked as the best One Day International (ODI) player in the world. The Pakistani star has played six ODI games this year, which has helped him finish 2024 with a rating of 795. His best game came against South Africa on 1919th December 2024, where he scored 73 runs in 95 balls at a strike rate of 76.8. Babar Azam’s best-ever rating was 898, something he managed to achieve after the game against West Indies at Multan in 2022.
