Australia stunned the Men in Blue by handing the hosts a massive 4-wicket loss in the first game of the three-match T20I series. Despite posting a mammoth score of 208 runs, India lost the match as the visitors chased down the target with four balls to spare.
The Indian bowlers, baring Axar Patel, were taken to the cleaners by the Australian batters in the first T20 with a couple of missed catches also haunting the hosts at Mohali. Let’s look at a few tweaks that Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma would opt to make in the India’s Playing XI to win the second game.
The speedster missed India’s first T20I clash against Australia and was severely missed by Rohit Sharma. The hosts gave away 57 runs in less than 4 overs during the death overs with every other pacer failing to restrict Australia’s run flow.
Bumrah has been the pace-spearhead who boasts the ability to swing the new ball while being highly effective in the death overs too. He is likely to walk straight back in India’s playing XI for the second T20I clash with Umesh Yadav expected to make way. His inclusion would sort out major problems for the hosts giving the much-needed balance to the bowling attack as India look to get back on the winning ways.
Despite being one of the best Indian spinners in the shortest format of the game, Yuzvendra Chahal failed to get the job in the recent past. He could not extract a much-needed breakthrough against Australia while conceding 42 runs in just 20 balls.

Chahal had a poor outing in Asia Cup as well which could see Rahul Dravid and co rope Ravichandran Ashwin in the playing XI at his expense for the Nagpur game. His inclusion will give the much-needed variety to the spin department with the veterans’ bowling set to complement Axar Patel very well. He has been quite impressive since his comeback and Ashwin’s batting ability will be a big plus for the hosts.
The veteran wicket keeper has been a part of the national team to play the specialist role of a finisher in the shortest format of the game. However, Axar Patel batted ahead of Dinesh Karthik in India’s previous outing against Australia. The hosts missed a major trick by not sending the Tamil Nadu based wicket keeper during the 14th over, giving Karthik some time to settle in before going berserk in the final few overs. Learning from the error the hosts need to swap the batting positions of Patel and Karthik for the next game citing the match situations.
