List of Cricket Teams With The Most ICC Trophies: The ICC is responsible for organising various cricket events and tournaments throughout the year. These tournaments serve as the most significant platforms for the game of cricket, where top teams contend for championship trophies. Being a part of a team on such a grand stage is an unforgettable experience.
The ODI World Cup is held once every four years, while the Men’s T20 World Cup takes place every two years. The ICC Champions Trophy is an exclusive tournament for the top eight teams competing to prove their glory on the field. Lastly, the World Test Championship lasts for two years.
Out of the 104 member countries in the ICC, which consist of 12 full members and 92 associate members, only a handful of teams have had the honour of winning ICC trophies. You can find the complete list of teams with the most ICC tournament victories below, along with relevant statistics.
Cricket teams compete to win ICC trophies as a sign of their dominance in the cricket world. The number of ICC trophies a team has won determines its success and how well it has established itself in the game of cricket. However, only a few teams have been able to achieve this feat, and even fewer have won more than two ICC tournaments. These are the main reasons why winning the most ICC trophies proves a cricket team’s mettle on the world stage.
For years, Australia has been known for their exceptional performances in cricket, consistently winning trophies for their country. Out of all the cricketing nations, Australia has the highest number of ICC trophy wins, currently holding nine ICC trophies.
They are also the only team to have won five ICC World Cups, having claimed victory in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2015. It’s worth noting that Australia holds the unique record of being the only team to have won the World Cup in all countries that have hosted the tournament until 2019.
Australia has also achieved success in other major cricket tournaments. They won the ICC Champions Trophy twice, first against the West Indies in 2006 and then against New Zealand in 2009. In addition, they recently secured their first-ever ICC T20 World Cup trophy by defeating New Zealand in the 2021 tournament.
Most recently, Australia claimed the ICC World Test Championship title after a dominant performance against India at the Oval, winning by a significant margin of 209 runs.

India has a remarkable record when it comes to the ICC Trophies, securing the second position on the list of teams with the most wins. Their first-ever ICC World Cup win in 1983, under the leadership of Kapil Dev, was followed by another victory in 2011, led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Additionally, the Indian cricket team has made it to the semifinals four times: in 1987, 1996, 2015, and 2019.
The team has also won the Champions Trophy twice: firstly, in 2002, when both India and Sri Lanka were declared co-champions, and secondly, in 2013, when they beat England by 5 runs in Birmingham. In addition, India won the inaugural edition of the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007, defeating Pakistan in Johannesburg’s Wanderers Stadium.

Moving on, the West Indies have clinched five ICC trophies, starting with their victory in the inaugural ICC World Cup final in 1975. The Caribbean team went on to retain their title in the following edition of the tournament, held in 1979. Moreover, the West Indies also claimed the Champions Trophy in 2004. In addition, the team emerged as the champions of the ICC T20 World Cup twice, triumphing over Sri Lanka in one instance and England in the other.

Before 2010, the English cricket team had not secured any ICC Tournament victories. However, in that year, they emerged triumphant in the ICC T20 World Cup, defeating their long-standing rivals, Australia. Craig Kieswetter played a pivotal role in leading them to victory in the final, securing their maiden ICC Trophy. Following this watershed moment, they have gone on to become an exceptional white-ball team, securing two additional ICC World Cup wins.
In 2019, a historic moment occurred when England won their first ICC Men’s ODI World Cup with the help of Ben Stokes’ incredible performance in the final against England. The match’s outcome was decided by the boundary count, which ultimately led to England’s victory.
Recently, Jos Buttler led the team to another triumph, becoming the first team in Cricket history to hold both the ODI and T20 World Cup titles at the same time. In 2022, Buttler and his team won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, and Sam Curran won the player of the tournament award after taking 13 wickets with the ball. Not only that, but Curran also became the player of the match in the final.
Trophy List
Pakistan has won a total of three ICC trophies, placing them fifth on the list of teams with the most wins. Their first victory was during the 1992 Cricket World Cup, when they defeated England in the final by 22 runs. In 2009, they secured their second ICC trophy by winning the T20 World Cup, beating Sri Lanka in the final by 8 wickets. The most recent ICC win for Pakistan was in the 2017 Champions Trophy, where they defeated India by a big gap of 180 runs.
Trophy List
Sri Lanka has secured the 6th position on the list with 3 ICC trophies. Their first-ever ICC World Cup victory came in 1996, when they faced Australia in the final at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Sri Lanka also won the 2002 Champions Trophy and shared the title with India in the tournament’s final. The last time they won an ICC Trophy was in the 2014 T20 World Cup, where they defeated India at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Dhaka.
Trophy List
Since the New Zealand cricket team began participating in ICC tournaments, they have secured two ICC trophies. Their initial victory in an ICC Trophy was in the 2000 Champions Trophy, where they triumphed over India by a margin of 4 wickets in the final held in Nairobi. Subsequently, the Kiwis claimed the ICC World Test Championship title, prevailing over India once again in the final of an ICC event and securing the trophy in the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship final.
Trophy List
Despite having a group of skilled and famous cricket players, South Africa has only managed to secure one ICC trophy in its entire history. During the 1998 ICC Champions Trophy held in Bangladesh, South Africa emerged victorious in the final against the West Indies, with the help of the exceptional performance of Jacques Kallis. Kallis was the driving force behind the team’s success and was recognised as the player of the tournament for his outstanding contributions. Notably, he achieved a century and a five-wicket haul during the competition.
