Rohit Sharma did not shy away from praising Suryakumar Yadav after India suffered from a narrow defeat in the third T20I against England on Sunday. The 31-year-old middle order batter became the fifth Indian to score a century in the shortest format of the game. He played a fantastic knock as India’s top-order batters failed to make a mark in the second innings.

The visitors were set a massive target of 216 runs as the openers could not get going with Rishabh Pant dismissed within the first 10 balls of India’s innings. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma also walked back to the hut soon putting the remaining batsmen in a spot of bother.
However, Yadav managed to keep India in the race after they were broken down to 31-3 in the powerplay. The middle order batter kept on scoring at a healthy rate. He also formed a much-needed partnership with Shreyas Iyer for the fourth wicket, keeping India in the race.
The Mumbai Indians batter ended with 117 runs from 55 balls before he was sent back to the hut by Moeen Ali as England registered a 17-run victory. Sharma was all praises for Suryakumar Yadav and spoke on him during the post-match presentation.
He said, “I thought it was a fantastic chase although we fell short. We are proud of the fight. Suryakumar Yadav was magnificent to watch. I have been watching him for a while now. Loves this format, has a wide range of shots. He has grown from strength to strength since we got him into the squad.”

The Indian skipper also went on to share how the team were put under pressure by the English batsmen. He added, “They put us under pressure with their batting. A decent partnership put us on the back foot. You back yourself to get this score. We were clear in trying out guys if they can bowl 4 overs. We have things to work on as a group. Hope so. So far things are pretty good. We don’t want to sit on laurels.”
The Men in Blue failed to register a whitewash against England after going 2-0 up in the three-match series. India won the first two games registering a 5o-run victory and a 49-run win to pocket the series before the final game. They will be eager to replicate such performances in the upcoming One Day Internationals (ODI’s) as well.
