Indian middle order batter Suresh Raina has decided to hang up his boots and announce his retirement from all formats of cricket. The southpaw is reported to have taken the decision after he was not picked by any franchise at the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the recent edition. He is now expected to feature in various franchise based T20 leagues across the globe.
The 35-year-old made the announcement on Twitter by saying,” It has been an absolute honour to represent my country & state UP. I would like to announce my retirement from all formats of cricket.” on Tuesday. The tweet further stated, “I would like to thank @BCCI, @UPCACricket, @ChennaiIPL, @ShuklaRajiv sir & all my fans for their support and unwavering faith in my abilities.”

Suresh Raina was seen training at the RPL cricket ground in Ghaziabad over the last year . However he will not play for Uttar Pradesh in the upcoming domestic season. The 35 year old is set to feature in T20 leagues across the world which includes the ILT20 in UAE alongside tournaments in South Africa, as well as Sri Lanka. The cricketer’s upcoming outing will see him in action in the Road Safety World Series which kicks off on 10th September.

Dainik Jagran has quoted Suresh Raina saying, “I will play in the Road Safety Series. T20 franchises from South Africa, Sri Lanka and UAE have contacted me but I am yet to take any decision. I want to continue playing cricket for two or three years. “

There are some exciting youngsters who are coming through the ranks of Uttar Pradesh cricket. I have already taken my No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA). I have informed BCCI secretary Jay Shah and vice-president Rajiv Shukla about my decision,” Suresh Raina added.
