Steve Smith has shared his thoughts on ‘Bazball’ after the term became quite popular amongst cricket enthusiasts in the last few months. This technique has seen the English cricket team take an aggressive approach towards Test cricket and helped them taste success at home. The Three Lions’ fearless approach was coined ‘Bazball’ as it began to be implemented under Test team head coach Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes.
Smith was asked to speak on the new fearless approach the England Cricket team has been following under the new captain and coach. The Australian batter did not shy away from expressing his thoughts while questioning how long will ‘Bazball’ will last.
He feels that ‘Bazball’ will come to an end once England begin touring and playing away from home conditions. The 33 year old also questioned if the English batsmen can replicate such hitting prowess against Australia’s frontline bowlers on a perfect green wicket.

Speaking with the media on the eve of Australia’s second Test against Sri Lanka, Smith said, “It’s been exciting. Even someone like Alex Lees started to come down the wicket when he was on nothing. I’m just intrigued to see how long it lasts if it’s sustainable. If you come on a wicket that’s got some grass on it and Josh Hazlewood, Cummins and Starc are rolling in at you, is it going to be the same? We’ll see what happens.”
Steve Smith’s comments come after England registered the highest-ever run chase in red-ball cricket against India. The Three Lions rode on hundreds from the likes of Joe Root (142*) and Jonny Bairstow (114*) who took the game away from the visitors. Before the Edgbaston Test, The Three Lions recorded three back-to-back wins against New Zealand at home. They maintained a perfect record and registered a whitewash against the Kiwis.
He also spoke on how Australia too have scored faster in some recent matches. Smith brought up the Ashes Test match at Hobart and the recently concluded first Test against Sri Lanka where they went at 4.53.
The 33-year-old said, “The pink-ball game in Hobart, when Heady and Marnus started to take the game on, the wicket was doing plenty so it was [to] counteract, put some pressure back on the bowler mentality, and it worked on that occasion. Is it going to work every time? I don’t know.”
