Starting 11: India has surpassed the US in fantasy sports

The CEO and Co-Founder of Starting 11, Teague Orgeman is a former lawyer and a huge soccer fan. Starting 11 is a world’s first live action fantasy football app which will allow users to make substitutions to their fantasy squad in real time. Orgeman plans to expand into India as they partner with Brand Capital and The Times Group’s 360 degree media assets in India, country’s most popular print, radio, television, and digital channels. After a lot of refining and testing, the app has been given a shape.

India is one of the biggest and fastest growing fantasy sports markets in the world. With a population of 1.4 billion people, it has already produced a tremendous fantasy cricket space. Orgeman says “delivering on what fans want is the priority, we are super excited to be part of the explosive growth of fantasy sports and football in India.” He added “Football not only is the second most popular sport in the country but it also appeals to the younger generation. So, we want football fans who wish to play fantasy football at a one-stop destination.”

The partnership of Starting 11 with Brand Capital and The Times Group will benefit them to scale quickly in India. They managed to gain 200K new subscribers even when football matches were not being played during the lockdown. As football has resumed, subscribers will increase and with the new season starting in September, the numbers will keep going up. The football fan base have seen recent growth in online gaming. Starting 11 have opportunities to grow in some parts of Europe, Malaysia, some parts of South-East Asia, Indonesia and Thailand. A large focus will be in the UK, US, Canada, Germany and India.

Starting 11 brings a new feature where users can substitute during the game compared to the traditional fantasy football, where the team you select remains till the end of the day or week. There is pent up demand for live content, particularly in live sports content around online gaming is increasing. Fantasy sports have been booming in the past three months and the only way one could describe the growth of this industry is explosive.
