South American Qualifiers: Brazil Registered a 3-1 Win Over Venezuela

Top-ranked Brazil bounced back from an early start in the South American qualifiers of the FIFA World Cup football, but Argentina was forced to share points after a draw. Brazil registered a 3-1 win over Venezuela without the suspended Neymar and the injured Casemiro, while Argentina played out a goalless draw against Paraguay.

Brazil was trailing bottom-placed Venezuela in the points table till the 71st minute. In this match played in Caracas, Marquinho equalized Brazil. Gabriel Barbosa scored Brazil’s second goal on a penalty in the 85th minute, while substitute Antony scored the third in injury time. Erik Ramirez scored for Venezuela in the 11th minute.

But despite the presence of Lionel Messi, Argentina failed to score. Argentina did not miss a single in front of Paraguay’s strong defence. Both the goalkeepers Emiliano Martinez of Argentina and Antoni Silva of Paraguay showed excellent play.

Brazil is on top with 27 points, while Argentina has 19 points from nine matches and are in second place. Ecuador and Uruguay have the same 16 points from 10 matches. Ecuador has won more matches and moved up to the third place with a 3-0 win over Bolivia. All these goals were scored between the 14th and 19th minutes. Michael Estrada scored the first goal followed by Inner Valencia scoring two goals.

Earlier Uruguay was held to a goalless draw by Colombia. Colombia is fifth in a 10-team round-robin tournament with 14 points.
The top four teams will advance directly to next year’s World Cup in Qatar, while the fifth-placed team will play in the playoffs against other federations.
