South Africa Announces New Captains For England Tour

Temba Bavuma has been ruled out from participating in the Proteas’ upcoming tours. The South Africa captain is all set to miss out on his teams’ all-format tour of England which also includes two T20I matches against Ireland. The 32-year-old suffered an elbow injury during the T20I matches against India. He is set to spend a long time on the sidelines and remain out on the action for over eight weeks. In Bavuma’s absence, Cricket South Africa has appointed Keshav Maharaj and David Miller as captains of the ODI and T20I team respectively.

South Africa’s highly awaited tour of England kicks off on 19 July, right after the Three Lions finish up their white ball series against India.  The Proteas are scheduled to play three One-Day Internationals followed by the same amount of T20I matches. Later on, South Africa will play two T20Is against Ireland in Bristol before they take on England once again in 3 Test matches.

Mpitsang went on to add, “This will be a very long tour for several members of the team who will participate in all three formats and the entire coaching and support staff. On behalf of the Selection panel, I would like to wish Mark (Boucher), our two stand-in, white ball captains, Keshav (Maharaj) and David (Miller) and Test captain, Dean (Elgar), all the very best for the tour. We anticipate exciting matches and nail- biting finishes against a strong opposing team that I know our Proteas enjoy facing off against.”
