The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly is set to give up his seat at the top of India’s apex cricketing council. According to reports, the former Men in Blue skipper will end his tenure at the helm of BCCI soon.
Sourav Ganguly’s tenure as BCCI president is set to end on 16th October. According to reports, he will not recontest in the BCCI elections which are scheduled to be held 2 days after Ganguly’s last day in office. If the rumors are to be believed, the 50-year-old is set to be in the running for the soon to be vacant post of the International Cricket Council Chairman.
He is expected to take over from Greg Barkley with the current president’s term set to expire by November. Sourav Ganguly is rumored to take over the position of ICC chairman post if he wins the elections that will be conducted in the near future. However, Ganguly could face some competition from Barkley itself, as well as a few others.
As per Dainik Jagran, all the top-level officials in the BCCI gathered for a meeting on Thursday. During the same, it was unanimously decided that Ganguly will not contest in the upcoming elections. The likes of BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla, alongside Treasurer Arun Dhummal, Secretary Jay Shah, and former President N. Srinivasan with Ganguly himself are said to be present during the discussion.

During the meeting, it is also said that Roger Binny has been named to be a strong candidate who could replace Sourav Ganguly and be the next BCCI president. Similarly, Jay Shah has been expected to remain on his BCCI Secretary post and re-contest for it despite earlier reports stating how he could take over from Ganguly in India’s apex cricketing council .
With the BCCI election set to take place soon, all the state associations have been asked to name their representatives who will appear in the Annual General Meeting. The last date to name the candidates is rumored to be 12th October with 35 of the 38 state units having already nominated their representatives. As per Cricbuzz, Services, Railways, and Universities are the three units that have noted announced their representative and want more time to select their electoral officer.
