Shoaib Akhtar SAID THIS On Mohammad Rizwan’s Innings Against SL

Sri Lanka registered an emphatic victory against Pakistan to walk away with their sixth Asia Cup title. The Men in Green failed to chase down the target of 171 runs handing the islandic nation a 23-run win. The Pakistan batting line up came under severe criticism for failing to score runs at a quick pace in the final overs. Despite having several big hitters in the batting order, Babar Azam’s men failed to chase down the target.

After the loss, former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has gone on to criticize wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan. The ex-cricketer claimed that the opener was batting slowly and he does not have the ability to finish the games.

Mohammad Rizwan ended up scoring 55 runs off 49 balls in the Asia Cup final and recorded a strike rate of nearly 112 against Sri Lanka. The opener lost his wicket when he tried to be aggressive which resulted in the teams coming under some pressure.

Citing the issues, Shoaib Akhtar questioned Rizwan’s failure and criticized him for not being able to finish the game after batting for a long duration Speaking on his YouTube channel, the former pacer said, “Are we playing the wrong team time and again? There are question marks on Mohammad Rizwan because he can’t finish the game, he needs support from others.”

“He played run-a-ball innings and after that, if he is not able to finish the match, then it is going to be a problem. So I think Pakistan has played very bad cricket, they should have batted first after winning the toss. Don’t know what was their plan,” Shoaib Akhtar added.

The 47 year old was also critical of Babar Azam, as the Pakistan captain failed to score a half-century and struggled with the bat throughout the tournament. Shoaib Akhtar later went on to speak highly of Sri Lanka stating how they showed resilience while playing solid cricket.

He said, “Pakistan leaked too many runs with the ball. Babar Azam didn’t score runs throughout the tournament. Class Class Class, leave the class aside. Your class only displays when you are in form. He is trying to hit from the first ball itself. Secondly, Fakhar Zaman doesn’t know what has happened to him. And Ifitikar Ahmed he continues to play run-a-ball innings.”

“Overall very poor performance from Pakistan bowlers and batters. Sri Lankans, you thoroughly deserved this win, you are the best team in the team in the tournament and you are going to be the best country in the world. My best wishes are with you as you have shown resilience and played solid cricket,” Shoaib Akhtar added.
