Shikhar Dhawan opened up about his struggles with the 36-year-old set to return to action for the Indian team. The Delhi based opener will be a part of the Men in Blues when they square off against England in three One Day Internationals (ODI). The matches are scheduled to be played on 12, 14, and 17 July, after the completion of the ongoing T20I series.
Known to be an ODI specialist, the 36-year-old spoke about his success in the One Day format. IANS has quoted Dhawan saying, “I’ve been playing ODIs for quite some years now. That has helped me gain a lot of experience. It’s a beautiful format, there are 50 overs and you have to play aggressively and mellow it down according to the situation and understand the game.”
The Indian opener also went on to speak on the importance of basics adding how a player should always believe in himself. Dhawan further added, “I feel that my basics have been strong since the beginning. I trust my technique and keep a calm mind while playing. As an opener, it is very important. I know how to build my innings and convert them into a big score.”

He did not shy away from expressing his love for food. The Delhi based cricketer also shared how he had to kill off the temptations and not eat his favourite food items while following his fitness diet. The 36-year-old said, “I’ve had to sacrifice a lot of my favourite food items for my fitness diet. I love having dal makhani and lachha parantha but I gave it up for my fitness regime. In order to have a balanced diet, I’ve added green leafy vegetables into my diet. I had to give up fried food items too.”
After the conclusion of the ODI series against England, Shikhar Dhawan is set to fly to West Indies. He is all set to captain India in a three-match ODI series against the Caribbean outfit. Those games are set to be played on 22, 24, and 27, July. His previous assignment as captain during India’s white-ball tour to Sri Lanka last year.
Shikhar Dhawan would be eager to play well and come up with consistent performances in the upcoming England series. The 36-year-old has been one of the best ODI players for India in the past and will be hoping to replicate his performances. The Indian cricket team will also be keeping an eye on the openers’ performances with the 50 over World Cup set to take place next year.
