Indian team captain Shikhar Dhawan has spoken to the media ahead of the highly anticipated ODI series against the West Indies. The swashbuckling opener has gone on to share how it is important for the team to be, “doing things together” and “sharing experiences” off the field. He goes on to add how doing that might help them in winning on the field.
The Men in Blue have been spending time together after reaching the Caribbean as they were trained indoors amidst the constant rains during their practice sessions. Shikhar Dhawan has gone on to share his thoughts ahead of the first ODI. He speaks about his efforts of sharing his experience with the youngsters whenever he gets a chance to play with them.
ESPNCricinfo has quoted the 36-year-old saying, “I’m very excited. Whenever I get a chance to work with the youngsters, I feel I can share my experience with them. Everyone does skill work, but I like to speak about the mental aspect and bring an impact to their games.”
The Indian team captain goes on to speak on his time, working with Rahul Dravid as the duo had paired up during the Men in Blues’ tour of Sri Lanka last year. He said, “We have a great bond. We had been to Sri Lanka and bonded well there. There is an understanding, which is very good. I feel my energy and nature are such that we’re all together.”

Shikhar Dhawan is captaining India for the second time on a tour also shared how he wants to have a lively atmosphere in the team’s dressing room. He says “That liveliness within the group creates a good bond. There’s always fun and games, and a lot of laughter. Earlier, we had team dinners and team activities. Now, we do reels too. If people are happy with it, it makes us happy.”
The 36-year-old also responded to rumors of being under pressure to perform amidst the competition at the top. India has a plethora of openers in the batting pool with Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson as well as Ruturaj Gaikwad in the mix.
India’s all format Rohit Sharma is also an opener, confirming 1 spot in the team berth with KL Rahul, also boasting the ability to play right at the top. Shikhar Dhawan concluded by saying, “People keep talking, I keep performing. If I listened to them, I wouldn’t be here. I have the experience, so I’m not too worried. As long as I self-analyze and improve, nothing else matters.”
