Shane Watson Names THIS Bowler As Jasprit Bumrah’s Replacement

Shane Watson has named a bowler he feels could replace Jasprit Bumrah in the Men Blue squad if the speedster is ruled out of participating at the T20 World Cup in Australia. The ICC event is all set to kickstart on 16th October with India playing their first game of the tournament against archrivals Pakistan on 23rd October at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The former Australia all-rounder feels that Mohammed Siraj could work well for India in Australian conditions while also emphasizing that no one in the world can be a replacement for Bumrah. Earlier, Rahul Dravid had revealed that the 28 year old is currently at the National Cricket Academy with the team management waiting to learn more on the player’s injury and availability.

Shane Watson’s comments on Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement

Speaking on The ICC Review, Shane Watson said, “The player I would put in if Jasprit (Bumrah) is not available is Mohammed Siraj, because of the firepower he presents. Without Bumrah, that’s the one thing India won’t necessarily have, which is vital on Australian wickets on the bigger grounds with the pace and bounce. Siraj is great with the brand new ball. He is fast, he swings the ball away but also his defensive skills are pretty good.”

He also went on to add how he feels that playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has helped Siraj picked up a few tricks that will help him shine in the shortest format of the game. Shane Watson claimed, “He’s got better over the last couple of years, with what we’ve seen in the IPL. So, for me he’s probably going to be the one who is going to have the most impact.”

Siraj’s selection in the Indian team for the ICC T20 World Cup would not come as a surprise with the speedster receiving a call-up for the ongoing T20 series against South Africa. However, the likes of Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar have earlier been named in the standby list earlier in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup.

Either one of the experienced seamers is expected to make the cut in the final 15 squad with Siraj likely to make it in the reserve team. Shane Watson also went on to reveal that India’s chances of winning the T20 World Cup for a second time will be severely hampered if Bumrah misses out on the T20 World Cup campaign.
