Sri Lanka cricket team went onto pocket their sixth Asia Cup title at Dubai International Cricket Stadium after getting the better of Pakistan in the finals of the six-nation tournament. The game saw a lot of questions and criticism flowing towards the Men in Green batter for a poor show in one of the most important games.
However, it was the teams’ vice-captain Shadab Khan who was in the limelight for his incident on the field which saw him take the blame for the loss and apologize to the fans for his horror show on Twitter. Often known as one of the better fielders on the team, Khan dropped two crucial catches in the final which proved to be very crucial in the clash. The missed chance resulted in Sri Lanka finding some much-needed momentum.
After dropping the crucial catch which eventually resulted in Pakistan losing the Asia Cup 2022 final, Shadab Khan took to social media and expressed his disappointment about dropping the crucial catch. He apologized for the errors and blamed himself for the defeat in the final.
The Pak vice-captain took to Twitter and wrote, “Catches win matches. Sorry, I take responsibility for this loss. I let my team down.” Shadab Khan added, “Positives for the team, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Nawaz, and the entire bowling attack was great. Mohammad Rizwan fought hard. The entire team tried their best. Congratulations to Sri Lanka.”

After the loss Babar Azam spoke with the media and shared his thoughts on the defeat, He said, “Congratulations to Sri Lanka for playing outstanding cricket. We dominated them for the first eight overs, but the partnership that Rajapaska got was amazing. This was a true wicket and it is always nice playing in Dubai. We didn’t bat according to our potential.”

The Pak captain added, “We started well, but we gave away 15-20 extra runs and couldn’t finish well. A lot of positives for us to take. In a final, the margin for mistakes is lesser. Our fielding wasn’t up to the mark and the batting couldn’t finish it off well. But Rizwan, Naseem and Nawaz were positives. Ups and downs will be there, but it would be nicer if we made lesser mistakes.”
The Pakistan cricket team has a few questions to answer after their loss in the final tov Sri Lanka. The batting approach from Babar Azam’s, lacked intent in the final. However, the form of players like Mohammad Rizwan as well as Shadab Khan will come as a big positive for them as they look to prepare ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup.
