Former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris has backed Men in Blues opener KL Rahul to be fully prepared and ready when the Indian cricket team takes the field in their first match of the Asia Cup. The Rohit Sharma led side is all set to square off against arch-rivals Pakistan at the Dubai International stadium on 28th August.
KL Rahul returned to competitive cricket after a long injury lay off which saw him get back on the field since the Indian Premier League. The 31-year-old last played for Lucknow Super Giants before spending over 3 months on the sidelines. He made his much-anticipated return to during the ODI series against Zimbabwe.
Speaking about Rahul’s form, Scott Styris reckoned that he is not worried about the 31-year-old opener, who failed to score runs against Zimbabwe in the recently concluded ODI series. He feels that the opener will look to be more fluent after spending time in the middle.
The New Zealand all-rounder also backs the Indian star to get back to his old self and be ready for the Pakistan game. Styris spoke with Sports 18 and said, “First of all, with regards to KL Rahul, I wouldn’t be worried either. I’d be worried if he’d be facing 5-10 balls each innings but the last one in particular – 46 deliveries I think it was.”
“If that’s the case, it means that time in the middle is coming and that means that he will become more and more fluent, game time in the middle? Far more valuable than the nets. So, I expect he’ll be ready to go against Pakistan,” Scott Styris added.

The 47-year-old also claimed that Shaheen Afridi’s omission from the Pakistani team will be boost Rahul’s confidence. He stated, “Now, for that one? I’m with you though, I think he’s going to go okay. The reason is for that is no Shaheen Afridi, we know that he’s out injured, the way he attacks the stumps that is the way you get KL Rahul out.”
“LBW and bowled. The fact that the main man who exposes that weakness is not there. I think KL Rahul has got an opportunity to be the star still, that we know he is because the pedigree is there,” Scott Styris added.
