Former Indian star Saba Karim shared his thoughts on how the Men in Blue could use Suryakumar Yadav at the Asia Cup 2022. Rohit Sharma’s side will kickstart their multi-nation tournament campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on 28th August. The Group A fixture is all set to be played at the Dubai International stadium on Sunday.
Karim spoke about Suryakumar Yadav as the 31-year-old has been in a purple patch of form. He recently scored a jaw dropping century against England before playing as an opener against West Indies and continued to perform. The former cricketer praised the Mumbai based star’s versatility and felt that he could be used as a floater by the Indian team at the upcoming Asia Cup.
Speaking exclusively on SPORTS18’s daily sports news show ‘SPORTS OVER THE TOP’, the former Indian selector spoke about Yadav’s multidimensional abilities. He shared how the 31-year-old can be pushed up or down the order if needed with the player boasting the talent to accelerate straight away when he walks out to bat.
The 54-year-old also stated how he wants the Indian middle order batters to be floaters who can adjust to various situations. Saba Karim also claimed that Rishabh Pant could also be thrown in the mix being a left-handed batter while sharing his top three in India’s batting lineup.

He said, “Suryakumar Yadav is such a multi-dimensional player, I can keep him as a floater. I can push him up the order, if my two openers bat say till the 7th-8th over, I can push in SKY then. Or in case it is required, I can also push him down the order because he’s such a player who can give me value at whatever number he bats and I’m looking at my 4-5-6 as floaters.”
“I will in fact keep Rishabh Pant very handy. Because if I feel that I need to push in a left-hander at the top of the order, I can do that as well. But as of now my fixed 3 positions at the top would be Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli,” Saba Karim added.
