India team captain skipper Rohit Sharma interacted with media on the eve of the T20I series. He shared how hard it was for him to miss the rescheduled Edgbaston Test. The 35-year-old went on to spoke about struggling to recover from COVID-19 for first couple of days. However, he claims to be fine now and is given the green signal to participate in the upcoming white-ball series against the Three Lions.
Sharma was quoted saying, “It was very hard to watch [the Test match] from the sidelines. It’s never an easy situation when you miss games, especially an important game like that, where the series was on the line for us. But speaking of the symptoms, for a couple of days I was struggling a little bit. But I’m happy that I’m standing back on my feet, nice and healthy as I look forward to this T20 series. I’m excited to get back on the field and get going with the guys.”

After missing the Test match, Sharma is set to re join the Indian team and continue the preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup. The upcoming series against England will play a key role in helping Rahul Dravid and the team management in jotting down the players. The Indian team captain has also admitted that decisions will be taken with the World Cup in sight.
“Of course, keeping one eye on the World Cup definitely… But I wouldn’t say it’s just preparation because every game for India matters to us. So we want to come here and tick every box we have and make sure we get our job done. As much as we want to keep one eye on the World Cup we want to make sure we get the job done here as well,” Sharma said.
The Sharma also shared how Sunrisers Hyderabad star Umran Malik is ‘in our plans’ and could be a possible inclusion in the World Cup squad. The Mumbai-based player said, “He’s very much in our plans. It’s just about trying to give him that understanding as to what the team requires from him as well. Yes, there’ll be times when we want to try out a few guys and Umran is definitely one of those guys we are keeping one eye on the World Cup. He’s definitely an exciting prospect.”
