Rohit Sharma Attends Net Practice After Covid-19 Recovery; Watch

Rohit Sharma was seen busting it out in the nets after testing negative for Covid-19 over the weekend. The Indian captain came out of the isolation and is now set to begin his preparations for the upcoming white ball matches against England.

The Indian skipper was reported to end his quarantine on Sunday after recovering from Covid-19. Earlier, he was all set to lead India in the ongoing one-off Test match. However, fate had other plans as the 35-year-old was affected by Covid. Sharma had to undergo an isolation period which ruled his out of the test match.

Fellow Mumbai Indians teammate Jasprit Bumrah took over the captaincy of the side in his absence for the rescheduled fifth Test. The speedster went on became the second pacer to captain India in 35 years with the previous captain being Kapil Dev who took last charge in March 1987.

It is now being reported that Sharma, who was seen practicing in the teams’ net session is all set to be available for the limited over matches. India’s all format captain will lead the Men in Blue in the upcoming three T20 Internationals and 3 One Day Internationals (ODIs) against the Three Lions later this week.

A senior BCCI official was also quoted by PTI saying, “Yes, Rohit has tested negative and as per medical protocols is now out of quarantine. However, he is not playing today’s T20 warm-up game against Northamptonshire as he will need some recovery time and training ahead of the first T20.”

Sharma was joined by the likes of off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and Umesh Yadav during the net-session. Both the bowlers have not been included in India’s playing XI for the fifth and final Test despite being called up to be a part of the squad.

After the recovery, the 35 year old is expected to lead the Men in Blue against the Three Lions in a three-match T20I series. While the 3 T20I’s kick start from 7th July onwards, they will be followed by 3 ODIs. Some key members of the Test team like Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja and Shreyas Iyer, have been rested for the first T20 International. They will return to the team for the remaining two T20Is and the ODI series after the conclusion of this Test match.
