Rohit hits record 3rd century as India win series

This Sunday was a good one for cricket fans. The day began with Pakistan beating Australia in the T20I tri-series final in Zimbabwe, and then we moved on to another final. India and England were playing the T20 series decider, after they both won one game each before yesterday.

It was an early setback for India at the toss itself, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav not making the playing eleven – two of their main striker bowlers. They were missed immediately as their replacement bowlers were being tonked around the ground; England put up an opening partnership of 94 within 8 overs.

A score of 220 and above was looking very likely but the Indian bowlers then made a lovely comeback, dragging down the England run rate by dismissing both the openers – Jos Buttler for 34 and Jason Roy for 67. Hales and Bairstow also made small contributions but England’s scoring rate had dropped drastically, because of the continuous fall of wickets.

Hardik Pandya was the wrecker-in-chief, picking up 4/38 as England only managed to put up 198/9 in their quota of 20 overs. This was still going to be an uphill task for the Indian batsmen. However, they were soon making a mockery of the run chase, with Virat Kohli playing second fiddle to a dangerous looking Rohit Sharma.

Kohli was eventually dismissed for 43(29) but the Hitman continued on his merry way, smashing 11 fours and 5 sixes as he brought up his third T20I century and became only the second person to have done so in this format, after New Zealand’s Colin Munro. Hardik then came out and finished the game stylishly, with a six over long on. This became India’s 6th consecutive T20 series victory! Man of the Match: Rohit Sharma.
