Rohit And Jaiswal Flunk On Ranji Trophy Return

The Indian cricket team have been abysmal in Test cricket recently, and after winning just one of their last eight Test matches, senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been urged to return to the Ranji Trophy. Ex-players, fans, and experts all seemed to have the same opinion that the senior players need to return to Ranji to hone their skills and get back in touch with themselves so that they can perform at the highest levels on the international stage. This article talks about Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s return to the Ranji Trophy.

Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal made their Ranji Trophy return for the Mumbai cricket team on 23rd January 2025 against Jammu and Kashmir. While fans were excited to see players the calibre of Rohit and Jaiswal play in the Ranji Trophy, it did not go according to plan at all. The Indian duo opened the inning for the Mumbai cricket team, but neither of them was able to make any kind of impact at all. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored just four runs in eight balls before getting out via lbw to Auqib Nabi, whereas Rohit Sharma made three runs in 19 balls before getting caught by Paras Dogra on Umar Nazir Mir’s bowling.

This is not the start that the Mumbai cricket team thought the opening duo of Rohit and Jaiswal will be giving them. However, it is important to remember that domestic cricket and international cricket are very different in nature, and it is a given that the senior players, who have not participated in the Ranji Trophy for quite a while now, will take some time to adjust. It is not only Mumbai fans but also all of India who are hoping that the senior players adjust quickly and start working on their performance. Indian fans want to see their beloved players return to the top of their game.

Rohit Sharma spoke about the senior players returning to the Ranji Trophy to hone their skills and improve their performances. He also spoke about the fact that they all have packed schedules due to so many international games and that while they need time to recover, they know what needs to be done so that they can improve their game and play better. The Indian captain said:

“And then, when you play so much international cricket through the year, you need some time off as well as a cricketer just to refresh, get your mind right, just to be ready for the upcoming season. But we have addressed it now and nobody takes it for granted or anything like that. It is just based on looking at how one has gone through the season, how much rest he needs. Based on all of that, we decide what is going to happen with certain players.”

As the Ranji Trophy season unfolds, the spotlight will be on Mumbai’s performance, with Rohit and Jaiswal at the helm. Expectations will be high, not just from fans but also within the team itself. While the purpose of the senior players returning to play in the Ranji Trophy is to help them regain form and get their confidence back, the Mumbai cricket team will not want to take even a single game lightly as the prestigious Ranji Trophy title is on the line and Mumbai will hope the addition of players like Rohit and Jaiswal will help them win this trophy and not hamper the progress they have made in the tournament so far.
