Robin Uthappa Shares His Picks On Rohit Sharma’s Successors

Robin Uthappa has shared his opinion on India’s future captains with Rohit Sharma nearing the end of his international career. The Men in Blue are shortlisting a few players looking to groom them to be India’s next captain. Uthappa has shared his picks based on formats with the 36-year-old veteran batter wanting to see Jasprit Bumrah take up the India’s captaincy in Tests.

Bumrah took charge of the Indian cricket team in the absence of Rohit Sharma, who missed the one off Test match against England at Edgbaston. Despite losing the game, the Indian fast bowler earned praise for his decision making. He is also known to be one of the best brains in the Indian circuit and has been hailed for his planning and strategies.

Uthappa, who recently was on ShareChat’s Audio Chatroom session – ‘CricChat Powered by Parimatch’ shared why he wanted Bumrah to be India’s next test captain. He was also seen speaking about his choice of captain in limited overs cricket. Uthappa wants either KL Rahul or Rishabh Pant to be named as the Men in Blues’ next ODI captain. The veteran batter said, “According to me, (Jasprit) Bumrah would be a great captain for Test cricket. For ODI, the choices would be KL Rahul or Rishabh Pant.”

He also went on to share his thoughts’ on Virat Kohli’s lack of form. Robin Uthappa went on to remind fans of the 33-year old-batter’s consistency in the past. He also added that Kohli’s own abilities had brought him success while predicting that the Delhi based batter will go past the 100 centuries barrier soon.

He said, “When he (Virat Kohli) was scoring runs when he was hitting hundred after hundred, nobody said he should play like this or that. Now, I don’t think we have any right to tell him how to play. He has scored 70 hundreds thanks to his own abilities and he will score another 30 or 35 also on his own abilities,”

Uthappa added, “We need to just leave him alone and let him play cricket. He knows what works best for him and I believe once he acknowledges his problem, he will be able to sort it out on his own. All we need to do is give him space to be himself.”
