The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the latest rankings which see the likes Rishabh Pant and Jonny Bairstow gain massive jumps amongst batters and break into the top 10 of the latest MRF Tyres Test Player Rankings.
The English batter played a crucial role for the Three Lions in the fourth innings of the Test match. The 32-year-old remained unbeaten on 114 runs helping his side complete a record breaking chase against India at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
He has been in a purple patch of form registered four hundreds in his past three Tests matches. Bairstow not only scored a century in each innings against India but also managed to break the three-figure mark in back to back matches against New Zealand last month.

The 32-year-old now has recorded 1,218 runs in the current ICC World Test Championship cycle. Bairstow’s solid outings in the last four test matches have seen gain a meteoric jump in the Mens’ Test Player Rankings. Before the New Zealand series, the Yorkshireman was slotted at the 47th position in batters ranking. Four matches later, Bairstow now has broken into the top 10, as he finds himself ranked 10th in the Test batting rankings.

Moving onto Pant, the wicket-keeper came up with a solid performance for India against England. He played an aggressive counter attacking innings in the first innings scoring 146 runs off just 111 balls. Later, he followed it up with another half century scoring 57 runs, crossing the 200 run mark in the rescheduled Test.
The 24-year-old’s recent form saw him amass two tons and three half-centuries in the last six innings he played. This has led to Pant earning his highest-ever position in the Test batting rankings, with the Indian star making a six spot jump and finding himself ranked 5th in ICC’s Mens’ Test Player Rankings.
Joe Root, who continued to impress for English after stepping down from capacity tops the list. He registered an unbeaten 142* during the second innings of England’s record chase and earn his highest rating points (923). Virat Kohli, on the other hand, had a poor outing against the Three Lions managing scores of 11 and 20. It sees him drop out of the top 10 for the first time in six years. The 33-year-old Indian batter dropped three places and is now ranked 13th in ICC Mens’ Test Players’ rankings.
