Real Madrid Recover to Win UCL Semi Final 1st Leg

The home crowd was getting behind its team, until Marcelo managed to drive a ground shot with his left leg, past the Bayern goalkeeper and equalize just a minute before the half-time whistle. The teams resumed the second half 1-1 but it wasn’t long before Marco Asensio broke free of the defence and passed the goalkeeper to take Madrid 2-1 up!

He scored in the 57th minute and the next 30-odd minutes of the game only went in defending as Bayern keep making chances to try and equalize. They enjoyed a total of 60% of the possession while they also had a total of 13 shots as compared to Madrid’s 6, and 10 corners as compared to Madrid’s 3.

As a relief to Madrid, the full-time whistle was blown, and Madrid won the 1st leg of their Champions League semi-final, 2-1. However, the players and coach Zidane will know that this was nowhere close to a convincing victory or a hard-earned victory. Champions League seems to be the place to be for Real Madrid and that’s how they always find a way to win games in this competition. The 2nd leg, which takes place next week, promises to be very exciting.
