Real Madrid Book Place in UCL 2018 Final

Last night, Real Madrid took on Bayern Munich at the Santiago Bernabéu, with a place in the 2017-18 UEFA Champions League at stake. Real Madrid are the masters of the Champions League and they always bring their best game when playing in this tournament.

They came into this game with a 2-1 lead that they needed to defend, as Asensio and Marcelo scored in the 1st leg of their semi-final. However, they began in the same fashion they began the 1st leg, conceding a goal early in the game. Joshua Kimmich scored for Bayern in the last game and he scored once again, in just the 2nd minute after kick-off.

Bayern fans would’ve had their hopes up, but it didn’t take long for Madrid to strike back, as Benzema found the net in the 10th minute, followed by another goal in the 45th minute. That second goal was due to a howler by the Bayern goal keeper who failed to collect the ball and allowed Benzema to score a goal he would’ve scored in his sleep.

However, Bayern weren’t going to go down without a fight as James Rodriguez scored in the 62nd minute which put Madrid under immense pressure for the last 30 minutes of the game. The aggregate score was 4-3 and Bayern needed just one more goal to qualify for the final with a higher number of away goals.

They had a total of 22 shots as compared to Madrid’s 9, 10 shots on target as compared to Madrid’s 3, and they also enjoyed 60% of the possession. Madrid ultimately managed to keep out the Bayern threat and they marched on to the final, with the final score line being 2-2. However, Zidane would know that this wasn’t their best performance, just like he knew they weren’t at their best in the 1st leg.

At the end of the day, the outcome is that Real Madrid won 4-3 on aggregate and they will play in the final. Tonight, Liverpool will play Roma in their 2nd leg game and Liverpool holds a 5-2 advantage. Are we all set for a Real Madrid vs Liverpool final on 27th May 2018?
