The Indian cricket team is likely to miss the services of Ravindra Jadeja for the upcoming 3 match ODI series against West Indies. The Saurashtra based allrounder was named as the Men in Blues’ vice-captain for One Day games but is now rumored to miss them due an injury.
Jadeja’s injury is a matter of big concern for the visitors who will play the upcoming series without most of their first team players. Many key stars including India’s all format captain Rohit Sharma alongside the likes of Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant have been rested for the 50-over games.
The Shikhar Dhawan led Indian cricket team is scheduled to play three ODIs against the Caribbean outfit before squaring off against them in 5 T20Is. They kick start the tour on 22 July at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad.

Jadeja, one of the senior most cricketers in the Indian squad for the One Day series, was expected to play a key role against the West Indies. However, the all-rounder is said to have suffered from a niggle on his knee which raises questions over his availability for the games.
Latest developments reveal that there has been no news on the seriousness of Jadeja’s injury. It is reported that the 33-year-old could return for T20I fixtures if injury is not serious. However, the possibility of him being unavailable for the entire tour to the West Indies cannot be ruled out yet.
According to Cricbuzz, Jadeja could only miss the 3 ODI matches against West Indies and return to action for the T20I games. However, the decision on the 33-year old’s fitness will be taken later after learning more on the seriousness of the injury. The all-rounder could also be given some time off as a precautionary measure to prevent aggravating the injury on his left knee.
The Indian team management will also have to look for a new vice-captain for the ODI series given Jadeja’s injury. Rahul Dravid does not have many options to choose from as the squad consists of a bunch of new players with relatively less exposure to international cricket. The likes of Yuzvendra Chahal and Shardul Thakur fall next in order in terms of experienced campaigners that have featured in national colours over the years. They could be given a chance to be Dhawan’s deputy for the ODI series.
