Former India cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri has made a bold statement on Virat Kohli ahead of the Asia Cup 2022. The Men in Blue are all set to square off against archrivals Pakistan in their opening match of the 6-nation tournament on August 28.
The former India coach has gone on to claim that Kohli needs only one innings to regain his form. He feels that the talk on the 33-year old’s struggles with the bat will shut down if the middle order star manages to score a fifty in the opening game of the Asia Cup.
Kohli is also set to return to competitive action after being rested for India’s recent tours to the West Indies and Zimbabwe. He took a break from cricket following the Men in Blues’ matches against England back in July. Speaking with Star Sports in a presser before the Asia Cup, Ravi Shastri said. “I have not spoken to Virat Kohli in a while, but the ‘big boys’ always wake up on time. Kohli’s rest before the Asia Cup was beneficial since it allowed him to reflect. If he scores a fifty against Pakistan, everyone’s mouths will be shut.”
“One inning may make or break a game. He only needs one inning to recover because his hunger remains unabated. What has occurred in the past is history. Remember that public memory is limited “ Ravi Shastri added.

Kohli took a break in order to spend some time with his family and relax citing stressful seasons after constant cricket. It has resulted in the 33 year old batter taking various pauses between series, ending up playing just four out of 21 T20s for India. Depsite such breaks Shastri claims that the former skipper is amongst the fittest players in the Indian team and has an astounding hunger and passion to do well.
“Virat Kohli is the fittest player in the Indian team, and no one can match his work ethic or the manner he trained. He is a robot. Without a doubt, he will return in peak condition. His hunger and passion are astounding,” Ravi Shastri further said.
