Rashid Khan has shared his delight claiming how the young Afghanistan speedsters have taken responsibility at Asia Cup 2022. He goes on to share that the fast bowlers have been learning from every outing which has played a massive role for the team.
Speaking with ESPNCricInfo after Afghanistan’s training session on Thursday, Rashid Khan spoke about left-arm fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi. The 21-year-old has broken into the national senior team this year. Rashid claims that the young bowler grew as a cricketer after playing in the Indian Premier League.
Farooqi featured for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2022 where he worked with Dale Steyn as well as got to pick the brain of Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Another Afghanistan bowler, Naveen-ul-Haq has been a constant in various T20 leagues like the Vitality Blast, Australia’s Big Bash League as well as the Caribbean Premier League.
Speaking about the fast bowlers, the 23-year-old said, “Bowling has always been good for us, but if you look at our side, the fast-bowling department was struggling earlier, but we have good bowlers now. Someone like Fazalhaq Farooqi has had the experience of playing in the IPL.
“The exposure he got there [at Sunrisers Hyderabad] has been massive. We also have Naveen-ul-Haq, who is playing all around the world. This is a massive sign for us. The focus is on getting better with each game and if we get a strong start, then when the spinners come on in the middle, it becomes easier,” Rashid Khan added.

The Gujarat Titans spinner went on to share how he is happy with the Afghanistan players keeping their calm and owning the high-tension situations. He referenced his team’s latest matches in the Asia Cup which saw Afghanistan register consecutive wins over Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the group stages of the six-nation tournament. Rashid Khan said, “We’ve focused on fast bowling and getting better in that area. We are ready for any team, and not just India or Pakistan. Our focus is the same, and we train with the same mindset and intensity for every opponent.”
“The way the boys have performed, the way they have adjusted and taken the responsibility upon themselves has been great to see. In the Super 4s too, our focus is on playing the same brand of aggressive cricket, but also learn from the mistakes we made and not repeat it,” Khan added.
