Rahul Dravid spoke with the media ahead of the highly anticipated rescheduled 5th Test between England and India. The Indian head coach praised Virat Kohli expressing how the 33-year-old inspires a lot of other players in the dressing room.
Dravid did not shy away from speaking about the amount of hard work Kohli shows when the team is practicing, sharing that he has never seen a person who is as dedicated as him. Interacting with the media before the match, he said, “He’s (Kohli) the most hard-working guy I have come across. The way he played in the practice match he’s ticking all the right boxes.”
Kohli’s recent batting form has seen him draw a lot of criticism. The Indian star batter has been going through a tough phase in international cricket. The Indian head coach spoke on what the team requires Kohli to do in the 5th Test match. He revealed how the team needs players who can come up with match-winning contributions and not focus on scoring hundreds.
Dravid added,“ I don’t think he needs motivation. You go through such phases and it’s not about focusing on those three figures. People see hundred as a success, but we want match winning contributions from him. He inspires a lot of people in the dressing room.”
Kohli’s heads into the one-off Test after scoring an excellent fifty in the warm up game. With the pressure of captaincy lifted off the batter, he is expected to play well against the Three Lions. He looked in good touch during a four-day warm-up game against Leicestershire. The 33 year old will be eager to end his long-running century drought against Ben Stokes and Co this time around.

The former Indian captain also spoke on the availability of Ravichandran Ashwin. The spinner was also affected by the Covid-19 virus and couldn’t travel with the team to the UK. However, Rahul Dravid has clarified that Ashwin is available for selection for the Edgbaston game.
He said, “Everyone else is fit. Ash was the other one with a bit of a concern because he had COVID. But he came to the practice game as well and we got some bowling out of him. He pulled through really well in the nets, so I think the medical team is very happy and comfortable with his ability to be able to play five days. He’s fit.”
