The first leg between PSG and Liverpool took place on 5th March 2024. Liverpool travelled to Paris and made an attempt to leave with an advantage. Paris Saint-Germain started the game extremely well, making chances through the wing and from the centre. The front three of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Ousmane Dembele, and Bradley Barcola was too much for Liverpool to handle. However, despite creating multiple chances, PSG struggled to put even one of them away. The game stood at 0-0 till the 87th minute, and it looked like there would not be a single goal in the game despite so many chances, but that is when Liverpool managed to sneak a goal in.
Harvey Elliott managed to squeeze the ball into the net in the 87th minute, scoring the first and only goal of the game to help Liverpool complete an absolute coup d’etat. Liverpool took just two shots, with one of them being on target, and scored one goal. On the other hand, PSG took 27 shots with 10 of them being on target but yet managed to score none of them. This was due to the incredible goalkeeping by Liverpool keeper Alisson. The Brazilian star was absolutely amazing and ended up making some ridiculous saves to help Liverpool win the game 1-0 and go into the second leg with a lead.

While PSG were 1-0 down and travelling to one of the toughest stadiums, Anfield, there was still hope for the French club. They had been outstanding in the first leg, and if they could replicate that performance and add some finishing touches, they would surely be able to overturn the one-goal deficit. Ousmane Dembele started very strong for Paris Saint-Germain and managed to claw back a goal for PSG in the 12th minute. He levelled the overall score, and Paris Saint-Germain kept hunting for the winner. While Liverpool and PSG both kept trying to score the next goal, neither of them managed to do so, and the game was forced into extra time.

While both Liverpool and PSG played extremely good attacking football, neither of them managed to break the deadlock, and Paris Saint-Germain managed to win 1-0 at Anfield. This meant that both the ties had ended 1-0, the first one in Liverpool’s favour and the second one in PSG’s favour. This meant that penalties would decide which of the two teams would progress to the UCL semi-finals. PSG started the penalty shootout, and both Vitinha and Mohamed Salah scored. However, while four Paris Saint-Germain players managed to score, Gianluigi Donnarumma managed to save the penalties of Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones to help PSG win 4-1 on penalties.
Paris Saint-Germain had officially completed the comeback at Anfield to knock out one of the favourites of the tournament. Not only did PSG win, but they also did so in a brilliant fashion, proving that Paris Saint-Germain is also one of the top contenders for winning the Champions League trophy this season. The French side will face the winners of the game between Aston Villa and Club Brugge in the Quarter Final, and if they manage to play how they did against Liverpool, they will most definitely advance to the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League. Fans will be very interested in seeing if PSG can go all the way this year and get their hands on the prestigious trophy.
