One of the most frustrating sights for any striker is hitting the woodwork, when a shot kisses the post or rattles the crossbar, only to bounce back into play or out of reach. It’s a reminder that even an inch can separate brilliance from heartbreak. 10. Luis Suarez – 25

Luis Suarez is a Uruguayan professional footballer who currently plays for Major League Soccer (MLS) side Inter Miami. The striker played in the Premier League in four seasons, representing Liverpool from 2011 to 2014, and left the club having made 133 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions. In this time, he managed to hit the woodwork 25 times, making him one of the players to hit the woodwork the most number of times in Premier League history.

9. Steven Gerrard – 26

Steven Gerrard was an English professional footballer who spent nearly the entirety of his football career playing in the Premier League, representing just one team, Liverpool. Gerrard ended his career with Liverpool, having played in 17 different seasons and having made 710 appearances for the club across all competitions. He played for the Reds from 1998 to 2015 and managed to hit the woodwork on 26 separate occasions during this time. This puts him in ninth place for players who have hit the woodwork the most number of times in PL history.

8. Mohamed Salah – 27

Mohamed Salah is an Egyptian professional footballer who currently plays for English Premier League side Liverpool. He joined the club from AS Roma ahead of the 2017/18 season and has since continued to play for the Reds. He has already represented Liverpool in the Premier League in eight different seasons and has made a total of 401 appearances for the club across all competitions. While Salah plays as a winger, he is quite an attacking player and has managed to hit the woodwork 27 times while playing for Liverpool, which makes him one of the players who have hit the woodwork the most number of times in PL history.

7. Raheem Sterling – 28

Raheem Sterling is an English professional footballer who currently plays for English Premier League side Chelsea. Sterling has spent his entire career until now in the PL and has represented four different top teams. He has played for Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Arsenal in the EPL and has participated in 14 different seasons in his career. Sterling has made a total of 396 appearances in the Premier League while representing these clubs and has managed to hit the woodwork 28 times in his career.

6. Wayne Rooney – 29

Wayne Rooney was an English professional footballer who played for two different clubs in his English Premier League career. The talented striker began his career while representing Everton and made a huge move to Manchester United ahead of the 2004/05 season, where he managed to make a name for himself as one of the best strikers of all time. Rooney played for Everton in just three seasons, but he represented Manchester United in 13 different seasons. Rooney ended his Premier League career having made a total of 491 league appearances. While he was a prolific goal scorer, Wayne Rooney ended up hitting the woodwork on 29 different occasions.

5. Son Heung-min – 31

Son Heung-min is a South Korean professional footballer who currently plays for English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur. The talented winger moved to Spurs ahead of the 2015/16 season and has since continued to play for them in the PL. He has played for the club in 10 different seasons, making a total of 454 appearances across all competitions. Tottenham Hotspur is the only EPL team Son has played for in his entire career, and during his time with the club, he has managed to hit the woodwork 31 times.

3. Sergio Aguero – 34

Sergio Kun Aguero was an Argentine professional footballer who played for just one Premier League team in his career, i.e., Manchester City. Aguero moved to the PL ahead of the 2011/12 season when City decided to sign him from Atletico Madrid. He played in the Premier League from 2011 to 2021, representing Manchester City in 10 different seasons and parted ways with the club only after establishing himself as one of the best strikers in PL history. Aguero ended his career with Manchester City, having made 390 appearances for the club across all competitions, and managed to hit the woodwork 34 times in the league during this time.

3. Kevin De Bruyne – 34

Kevin De Bruyne is a Belgian professional footballer who currently plays for Serie A side Napoli. The incredible midfielder, who had been playing in the Premier League until the 2024/25 season, decided to leave Manchester City and move to Serie A. De Bruyne has played for two PL clubs in his career, namely Chelsea and Manchester City. He played for Chelsea before his career kicked off and only made three PL appearances for them, but he represented Manchester City in 10 different seasons and made a total of 285 league appearances for the club. During his time with the Cityzens, Kevin De Bruyne ended up hitting the woodwork on 34 different occasions.

2. Harry Kane – 36

Harry Kane is an English professional footballer who currently plays for Bundesliga side Bayern Munich. While the striker currently plays in Germany, he is mostly known for his time in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur. While Kane spent one season on loan at Norwich City and did make three PL appearances for them, most of his career was spent while representing Spurs. Kane played for Tottenham Hotspur in 13 different seasons and made a total of 435 appearances for the club across all competitions. He established himself as one of the best strikers the Premier League has ever seen and managed to hit the woodwork 36 times during his time in the PL.

1. Robin van Persie – 44

Robin van Persie was a Dutch professional footballer who had two different Premier League careers, namely Arsenal and Manchester United. He first played for Arsenal in the Premier League, joining them in 2004 and playing for them till 2012. After a discussion with Sr Alex Ferguson, Robin van Persie opted to move to Manchester United in 2012 and played for the Red Devils from 2012 to 2015 before moving away from the PL. The Dutch striker was simply phenomenal and went on to make 280 appearances in the league while representing these two teams. Robin van Persie ended his PL career having hit the woodwork on 44 separate occasions, the most of anyone in history.
