Philippe Coutinho is a Brazilian professional footballer who currently plays for Brazilian Serie A side Vasco da Gama. Ironically, the club Coutinho currently plays for is the same club where his football journey started. Coutinho established himself as one of the best midfielders of his generation and was very highly rated in his prime. This article talks about Philippe Coutinho’s net worth and the salary he earns while playing for Vasco da Gama.
Philippe Coutinho started his football journey with Brazilian football club Vasco da Gama. He flourished in the club’s youth system, rising through the ranks and honing his skills as a midfielder. His talent and performances caught the eye of a top Italian club, Inter Milan, who decided to sign him in July 2008. However, as FIFA prohibited international transfer of footballers until they reached age 18, Coutinho stayed on loan at Vasco da Gama for two years after Inter Milan officially signed him.
The Brazilian star’s move to Inter Milan became effective in July 2010. He made his debut for the club on 27th August 2010, coming on as a substitute in a 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the 2010 UEFA Super Cup. Coutinho struggled to establish himself in Inter Milan’s team and was sent on loan to Espanyol in the middle of the 2011/12 season. He stayed with Espanyol till the end of the 2011/12 season before returning to Inter Milan. However, the player failed to make any impact for the club upon his return.

Philippe Coutinho decided to leave the club permanently in the January transfer window of the 2012/13 season, moving to Premier League club Liverpool. It was here that Coutinho established himself as one of the finest midfielders in the world, becoming a world-class talent for Liverpool and creating brilliant plays for them. He represented the club across six Premier League seasons, making 201 appearances for them in all competitions. It seems like Coutinho loves a January transfer, and he moved to La Liga side Barcelona in the January transfer window of the 2017/18 season.

This was the biggest move of Coutinho’s career, but it did not end up going as expected. During his medical, he was diagnosed with a thigh injury sustained a few days before joining Barcelona, meaning that he would be out for three weeks. When he returned to fitness, he did not look like the Liverpool player Barcelona had signed, and he soon fell out of favour at the club despite his huge price tag. His stint at Barcelona was followed by loans to Bayern Munich and Aston Villa before the Brazilian permanently signed with Aston Villa ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Philippe Coutinho spent a year at Aston Villa and looked better than he had in the years but soon fell down the pecking order at this club as well. He was sent on loan to Qatar Stars League club Al-Duhail on 8th September 2023. After returning, he was sent on another loan, this time to his boyhood club, Vasco da Gama. Coutinho is currently employed by his boyhood club, which has decided to give him a professional contract. This football contract is one of the many that Coutinho has received throughout his career, and it is with the help of these that the Brazilian star has managed to accumulate a net worth of around $60 Million.

Philippe Coutinho signed his latest professional contract with Brazilian club Vasco da Gama on 10th July 2024. This deal made Coutinho the highest-paid player at the club, ahead of the likes of Dimitri Payet and Joao Victor. This deal saw Coutinho earn an annual salary of around $3.1 Million, which roughly translates to around $60,000 per week. While this is a drastic pay cut from what Coutinho earned at other clubs, this is another professional contract that will help boost his net worth even further in the future.
Despite the challenges he faced during his time in Europe, Philippe Coutinho remains a beloved figure in football. His skill, creativity, and vision on the pitch have made him one of the most exciting players to watch. As he returns to his boyhood club, Vasco de Gama, his journey from a young boy in Brazil to a global football star serves as an inspiration for aspiring athletes everywhere. Coutinho now feels that it would be best if he continued to play for his boyhood club for a very small amount to pay them back for helping him launch his football career.
