West Indies head coach Phil Simmons has shared what his team needs to do if they want to win against India in the upcoming ODI series. The 59-year-old shared the Caribbean outfit needs to boast a strong batting lineup like India as their opponents will aim to score big runs. He also goes on to add how the most important thing for the hosts is to make sure that they keep on picking up wickets at regular intervals.
Speaking with the media on the eve of the first ODI, the Trinidadian cricket coach went on to speak on the importance of building partnerships in One Day Internationals. Phil Simmons goes on to add how playing hard and aggressive too early in the game could end up as a failure. Simmons adds that one of the West Indies batters needs to bat deep and play a big knock while emphasizing that they need to bat the 50 overs.
Phil Simmons was quoted by ESPNcricinfo saying “The main thing is how we bat our 50 overs. We have to bat 50 overs and put our innings together and partnerships together. Somebody has to be looking to score a hundred and hold the team together. Batting-wise that is it.”

The former West Indies all-rounder also spoke on the high fielding standards the team has set for itself while adding how they need to get their bowling right. Phil Simmons is quoted saying, “The bowling and the fielding has been improving daily. We rank ourselves very highly on the fielding.”
He added, “The bowling, we had couple of games on those wickets where people might say we should’ve gotten more wickets but the wicket got better every time we fielded because they had put out the second roller on it and it had dried out from earlier in the day.”
The West Indies outfit’s head coach concluded by saying, “The bowlers have been doing well and we have to continue restricting and getting wickets – that’s the only way we can keep totals low and continue to win games.”
