PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja Reveals New Policy

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) introduced a new policy for its players on Friday. The new policy sees PCB have separate central contracts for white-ball and red-ball cricket for its elite players on June 24. While the new contracts have higher retainers, it also stops top level stars from taking part in overseas leagues over international cricket.

According to PCB, the new policy will play a key role in reducing the gap in salaries of Pakistan stars compared to players from other countries. It is also meant to act as a strategy to incentivize their elite players. They shared a statement which read, “As part of its strategy to incentivise, reward and encourage its high-performing elite cricketers, as well as to narrow the gap in salaries compared to players of other countries, the BoG has approved changes in the men’s central contracts structure.”

The Board of Governors meeting has also authorized a 15 billion rupee yearly budget with over 78% of the funds set to be used for cricketing activities in the fiscal year of 2022–2023 . Ramiz Raja, the chairman of PCB has called it a turning point for Pakistan cricket.

Raja has been saying, “ I am pleased with the enhancements in the 2022-23 central contracts. I remain committed to looking after our national cricketers who bring joy to the fans and laurels for the country. These players are our pride, and always need to be well looked after and properly valued. It will be done so that they can continue to flourish in their field of expertise.

“Further, and to discourage our elite players from signing up for additional off-season events, we have allocated substantial pool of funds. This amount will be used to compensate them for their potential loss in earnings and will also manage their workload and ensure that they remain fully fit, fresh and ready when required on national duty.”

PCB is set to implement the 2 different red and white-ball contracts from July 1. The announcement aslo sees PCB increase the number of centrally contracted players upto to 33. The match fees of non-playing members has also been increased from 50% to 70% with a captaincy stipend also implemented for the benefit of the team captain.

The PCB chairman also spoke on challenging the BCCI’s decision on getting an extended window in the Indian Premier League. Raja responded on the topic with, “There has been no announcement or decision as yet on the IPL window being increased. I will give my views on this issue at the ICC conference.”

He added, “My point is clear: if there is any development in world cricket that means we are being short-changed, we will challenge it in a very forceful manner and put our point across strongly in the ICC.”
